To think this woman was being bitchy?

I went into a local charity shop earlier today.

I started to have a look through a rail of tops in sizes 6, 8 and 10 (I'm a size 6-8 and a small build), and the woman behind the counter said 'they're all small sizes my love, they won't fit you'. I said 'No it's fine thanks, they're my usual sizes'.

She didn't say anything until I moved onto the jeans rail when she came over to me, and said again 'Those are all small too my love, the 14s and 16s are there'

I said 'No it's fine, these are my sizes' and she looked me up and down and just walked off.

I'm not saying at all that there is anything wrong with being a size 14 or 16 but they're not my sizes, and I don't look anywhere near those sizes.

AIBU to think she was just being nasty?

@popcorndreams

This is redic. I'm a 22 now that's different to an 8 or 10. But having been a 14/16 before I can say it's very different to your size. She was being rude.
redic. ?

What a bitchHmm
Some high end stores have questioned my friends and even my DD before on sizes, they seem to think only white, skinny people should shop in their stores. I wouldn't mind as much if it was me but no one insults my children. Complained to head office who was immensely apologetic and even offered me a discount on my next visit.

Go back into the shop with an old pair of unwanted specs

Hand them to her and say “ I saw these and thought of you”

Give her your sweetest smile and walk out

grassisjeweled · 22/10/2020 17:36

Awful woman.

ViciousJackdaw · 22/10/2020 17:45

But just to say, your tone about clearly not being 'those sizes' is pretty unpleasant

No it wasn't, don't be silly. What on earth is unpleasant about I don't look anywhere near those sizes? Someone who wears size 6-8 won't look anywhere near a size 14-16. There's four sizes difference there.

StressyMcstresserson · 22/10/2020 17:45

She sounds like she was jealous of your small build Confused what a bitchy thing to say to someone!

flaviaritt · 22/10/2020 17:46

I’d have complained. How dare she comment on your body?

Dangermouseis42now · 22/10/2020 17:49

She was rude and made spiteful comments

Send a letter to charity head office

They will follow up as I'm sure you won't be the only person she's enjoyed trying to insult

Ime though people working in charity shops can come from a range of retired people with time on their hands to people with mental health problems . But it's better that those who manage the shop are made aware that she has an attitude problem as other vulnerable people will be shopping there too who may be distressed by someone making personal comments

8stone at 5ft 5 ? Shock

You're fucking miniature ! How did you not ask her if she'd gone ga-ga ?

I would have

S111n20 · 22/10/2020 18:39

Yes very rude !!

MiddleClassMother · 22/10/2020 18:48

@Scoobydoobydo
Brilliant idea, i'm cackling😂

CSIblonde · 22/10/2020 18:55

How rude. She was probably jealous. I bought a charity shop Jasper Conran summer dress for a size 8 relative ( best bargain ever , £15 )& got "that won't fit you"! . I was a slim size 12 at the time,but it wasn't for me so I just smiled. Mums & daughter's are always shopping in there & obv people don't just shop for themselves ,so she's obv just a bit dim.
