To think that Ed Harris is a dreadful stereotype...

Watching 'Stepmom' while I wait for my laptop to get with the programme. Judge me as you will.
But AIBU to think that the dad played by Ed Harris is just the most awful dad. Why is the Stephen expected to make their lunches and do their washing? She's not even their stepmum. She's his girlfriend of one year. Fine if he asks her to look after them in the morning because he has to go to work early, but HE should be the one doing the heavy lifting.

God I hate being a grown up sometimes. Ruining all the entertainment with logic.

Any films or books ruined for you by applying logic?

And by 'Stephen' I obviously meant stepmum, but my phone knew better.

I loved Mrs Doubtfire when I was younger, now as an adult of course I can see why she’d want a divorce.
Also Miracle on 34th Street from the 90’s....they aren’t even dating and he proposes. THEN he says “I put my faith in you” when he’s hurt she says no

Yes yes! I tried to watch Mrs Doubtfire with my kids recently and ended up turning it off after 20 minutes. What an awful husband he was!

I’ve always thought it a bit silly that in all the Star Treks they can do video calls with people who are light years away but seem to lack the technology to send video back to the ship when away teams beam down to planets.

Yes to Mrs Doubtfire! The mum works so hard and they have a gorgeous house in San Francisco. But he's an idiot child who brings farm animals into the house. I hope she ended up marrying Pierce Brosnan and the kids grew up and realised what a knob their dad was.

I mentioned it on another thread but Sleepless in Seattle is so unromantic as a grown up. Tom Hanks is obviously still grieving and Meg Ryan falls in love with someone because they're talking romantically about their dead wife. She also has ridiculous expectations from a relationship. OK, so don't marry boring fiance, but also don't jump head in with a man who needs therapy!

I haven't seen Stepmom, but I completely get what you mean OP.

So many films and programmes I used to love, now infuriate me.

Pretty Woman for example, which I still do love watching Grin but that scene when Edward shouts back at Vivienne to come back to him - "Vivienne! I'm speaking to you, come back here!" and she comes back like a puppy with its tail between its legs. Hmm Just awful.

Ross in Friends - just generally. I remember thinking he was just a bit geeky and a hopeless romantic, but actually he's a controlling arsehole. Oh and all the homophobia in the show is terrible. It's strange to think only 20 years ago it was ok to say things like "whatever dude, you kissed a guy" and "weirder than seeing your two moms kiss?!" in the most popular sitcom in the world. Makes me cringe now.
