To ask how to deal with a broken hip?

My DH has only gone and broken the top of his femur sliding on a wet patch cycling to work. Thanks to the NHS, he was put in a passing ambulance immediately and I got a scary call at work. He is about to have surgery, which means (due to Covid) that I can't be with him in hospital. Tell me how I can get things ready or what I need to do while I am home waiting?! Our bedroom and bath is upstairs which prob won't work, but we are lucky to have a loo downstairs. We also don't have a car which may make physio appointments tricky.

Anyone out there or partners who has had this type of injury?

I am a therapist who has worked on a hip fracture ward. The therapy team should make sure he is set up to come home.

Where I work he would be given equipment if needed and will probably be able to manage the stairs before he goes home.

For the stairs we advise they go up with their non fractured leg first and down with their fractured leg.

I had a similar injury in March although from tripping over whilst walking the dog rather than cycling. It was pretty painful for the first couple of days but was given plenry of painkillers to keep it bearable. I'm a single parent (teen dd) with bedroom and bathroom upstairs and was out of hospital in just under a week and managed fine at home. I had lots of equipment lent to me (crutches, perching stools, a high chair as my couches are too low) and I also had a grabber and sock putter-onner that I bought at the hospital before leaving. It was a bit frustrating that everything took longer to do but I was pretty much back to my normal routine after 6 weeks. The physios came out to me but only once as I was managing pretty well with the exercises they gave me. Best wishes to your DH for a good recovery.
