do these idiots that trepress not realise that someone has to deal with the aftermath of someone being hit by a train ? it certainly isn't pretty, i've had the misfortune to deal with several victims, train drivers police and emergency crews are all affected by this.

Honestly have no words for that. One of my best friends growing up died in a tragic accident involving a train crossing, the aftermath was horrific Sad

CounsellorTroi · 20/10/2020 13:50

I remember there was a craze for taking selfies in dangerous positions like lying on a hotel balcony railing. Perhaps this is the latest version!

longwayoff · 20/10/2020 14:01
Shock
HavelockVetinari · 20/10/2020 14:14

That's bloody awful, they must be thick as mince. I saw a man decapitated by a train once, it was truly the most shocking (and messy) thing I've ever seen. The thought that someone else would have to go about collecting up the pieces was the worst. Sad

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/10/2020 14:32

Dh has had to deal with the aftermath of someone being hit by a train, and it was awful. It has a terrible impact on the train driver too - some of them never manage to drive a train again.

But none of this matters when set against getting the perfect wedding photo. Hmm

Well, there is, but it's a risky and experimental procedure that includes Railways, Level Crossings, the 15:45 from Kings Cross and frequently results in death.
SnuggyBuggy · 20/10/2020 14:33

I'd understand a scenic disused railway but why this?

It's at Whitby - this is a single line in and out of the small fishing village.

If I recall correctly, this crossing is actually in sight of the Station and has a massive 6 trains per day (4 on Sundays), all terminating/starting from Whitby Station.

They also have a Steam Train in and out every so often.

Probably a very calculated low risk event in fairness, but looks like a Daily Mail Outrage Inducing Article.

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/10/2020 14:56

And they're not trespassing either - that's a passenger crossing.

So if they've checked the timetable and that there aren't any "specials" coming through, I can't see that they are putting anyone at risk.

If a PP is correct with regards to the location, I don't really see a problem?

We have railway lines here that often aren't in use on Sundays or Bank Holidays, or we have tourist railways that don't operate the vast majority of the off season either.

Not all railway lines are especially dangerous, though it's not an ideal thing to encourage.

AIMD · 20/10/2020 15:04

I mean I understand they might have checked the time table and considered risks themselves. However I think with things like train lines it best to air on the side of safety and stay off unless you have a good reason to be there. In my eyes wedding photos isn’t a good reason.

PenCreed · 20/10/2020 15:05

I think the point is that if people see it, they'll assume that their local line is equally safe to do this on. So eg idiots will take posed photographs for Instagram and get taken out by the Flying Scotsman instead.
AIMD · 20/10/2020 15:12

I agree with @PenCreed, I think with something as serious as rail safety there need to be clear directions and boundaries to maintain safety. If we starting saying that it is sometimes ok for public to go onto railways for photos I think that dilutes the message of how dangerous railways lines can be.

mumwon · 20/10/2020 15:36

forget the danger & idiocy of this for a moment! - its not exactly a picturesque photo? So why?

mumwon · 20/10/2020 15:38

visions of the next photo - ala 1920's bride stretched out across the lines...
goodness some people are daft - was this photo a way of getting it in the paper

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/10/2020 16:00

So... did they know about the third line?

Did those who walked up the line to set up the lights, reflectors, get a different picture angle know they were trespassing once off the crossing?

Do any of them know anyone who has seen the aftermath of person vs train? DH has. Body parts under a station side cabin. He was fitting some telecoms stuff and, when checking connections, found limbs from an incident that had happened some weeks before, way up line. He had nightmares for months.

It doesn't matter how little the line is used. Trains aren't the only danger on a line.

No idea! But I wasn't the one walking up the line to take pictures.

a quiet line ? oh, that's okay then. we must respect the facts idiots will do these stupid things, let them crack on, so you'd have no problem with kids, possibly yours, playing here then as it's quiet ? wtaf ?
