How do you feel about your financial future with everything that's going on in the world?

I'm job hunting. It's driving me bonkers. Possibly because I'm both trying to focus on a particular industry, but then because I need a job also trying to widen the field and be open to all kinds of opportunities.

I just feel really uncertain about my finances going forward, and what my earning potential will be realistically. If loads of people are being made redundant, it seems like the job market will be saturated by people competing?

How do you feel about your future jobs/ money prospects?

There will be more people looking for work, but unless their qualifications match yours it shouldn't be a problem. Some industries are getting walloped, others are doing okay.

One reason the stock market is holding up alright is the assumption that once widespread vaccination starts the economy will pick up and reabsorb a lot of the people currently out of work.

I think if you can hold out for a year or so things will be much better.

A no deal Brexit will have much worse long term implications for the economy than the pandemic IMO Angry

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/10/2020 19:09

Not great. The industry I'm in is doing very well at the moment but not being able to WFH means any future lockdowns/school closures will mean me unable to work.

I hope so. But won't there be a question mark about the viability of a good % of smaller and midsize businesses by the time we have vaccination rollout?

The effects of which then ripple through the rest of the economy?

Wobbly at the moment.
My industry is being hugely affected by Covid even now we are open to trade.

I can't see it getting better for quite some time if we are still open for trade.
Move been looking around at what's available but like others posters have said so many people are looking for work.

Bearnecessity · 19/10/2020 19:26

It is challenging indeed but I have found a new job only last week and my ds also has started a new job recently.Admittedly both of us in dependable, needed industries but there are jobs and opportunities out there with new jobs being created, needed as a result of covid. I think people will adapt and be surprised at how their lives may change for the better but it will be painful initially.

Fooked.

I'm sure there will. As demand returns those businesses or others that have survived will pick up. And I think we will have vaccine rollout in less than a year.

We are fine. DH is in an essential job and I have just got a new job offering a service that companies have to have.
Plus we are spending less so our savings have gone up since April
We are very lucky

borageforager · 19/10/2020 21:04

Doomed.

My DH has a secure job & I’ve been a SAHM for years, so we will be fine, as we already live on his wage. But I really want a job, struggling to get one before lockdown & pretty sure that I will find it almost impossible now (not many jobs in my area anyway, now loads of redundancies)

Mimishimi · 20/10/2020 03:51

Feeling okay. Demand for hair and makeup has actually gone up because it makes people feel better in a crap situation.

knickybricks · 20/10/2020 05:11

We’re just about to start recruiting, just two people but they need to be highly skilled - feeling nervous about making a choice to employ someone Over Video calls and then have them remotely join a team. It feels very much fingers crossed.
I’m scared we will get inundated with unsuitable applicants and I’ll end up spending hours looking for a needle in a haystack. Our finances are fine - we could retire if the business collapses - I worry about the dcs and how this will affect them and their chances - the normally abundant supply of weekend jobs have disappeared, Uni is not looking like a great experience...not sure what approach is best.

ScrapThatThen · 20/10/2020 05:19

Lucky. DH is in a secure role and nearer retirement. I am NHS and have been fortunate to get a new job opportunity (same grade) this year. 16 year old has got and started a weekend job.
