To think cross-dressers are NOT on the trans spectrum?

Just that really, went to a stand up gig and this comedian was wearing a dress and said he is a cross dresser and is on the trans spectrum.

First of, I don't even know what a "trans spectrum" is supposed to be, I mean either you're trans or you're not, right?

And also, in my opinion cross-dressers are the exact opposite of trans people as they are aware that wearing gendered clothes and make-up does not make them the opposite sex. Am I wrong?

@K00kiEe Eh, they'll do that no matter what, won't they? Much better to let people identify how they feel comfortable with the risk of hetero's/cis people appropriating it, than to force people to choose a specific label, but still with the of heteros/cis people appropriating it. Sad

K00kiEe · 19/10/2020 00:02

Heterosexuals wouldn't be able to appropriate LGB issues if people stuck to the actual meaning of things would they? Confused

K00kiEe · 19/10/2020 00:04

Wtf is "cis"?

I think this thread has 'goady fucker' written all over it.

K00kiEe · 19/10/2020 00:08

No need to tell me, I've googled. It's a nonsense based on how much a persons sex confirms to sex based stereotypes.

That's some progressive non labelling thereGrin

Probably right. I'll leave this thread before I get further drawn in.

NiceGerbil · 19/10/2020 00:17

Your ID is what you say it is.

If a person says they are trans they are trans.

OP I think you're out of date.

You can ID part time as well. Like p bunce who has picked up women in business awards.

I also wonder if this post is goady tbh

Cabinfever10 · 19/10/2020 00:22

@TheLobster can I suggest that you spend some time on the feminist chat board it will open your eyes to this gender woo crap

JKRowlingforever · 19/10/2020 00:27

In 1995 transsexual and transvestite was amalgamated to transgender.

theblackparade · 19/10/2020 00:33

Wow, OP, it’s incredible that after seeing this person do one stand up set you know more about their own identity than they do!

mummmy2017 · 19/10/2020 00:54

Wonder if Paul O'Grady, has been told he is a transwoman.
Bring back Lily Savage 😜

@jennie0412

I think it doesn't matter and we should let people define themselves as they want.
Great, could you to help women do just that please?
FurTeacup · 19/10/2020 05:57

@Smallsteps88

The thing is OP, we now live in a world where if someone says they are something, then they are it. And we just have to be kind and accept it. It doesn’t matter if it is confusing or makes no actual, logical sense, peoples feelings are more important than reality. Don’t try and understand it. Just nod and smile. And back away slowly.
Men’s feelings are more important than women’s lived biological reality.
nosswith · 19/10/2020 07:15

You can be both but also can be just one of the two in my opinion.

You can't decide who is on the trans spectrum and who isn't. That is not up to you. It depends how each person feels about their identity and you cannot make that decision for them.

PrimalLass · 19/10/2020 07:35

Men with a fetish.

PrimalLass · 19/10/2020 07:36

@Whatisthisfuckery

I dare you to go on twitter and say that OP. A trans person is trans if they say they are, and woe betide you if you disagree. One doesn’t even have to cross dress to be trans, the only qualification is I am because I say I am.
I say it every day on Twitter. The more people who keep saying it, the easier that gets.
Hadalifeonce · 19/10/2020 07:46

We know a group of blokes who like to wear glamorous dresses, and makeup. None of them see themselves as anything more than blokes dressing up for fun.

AgentJohnson · 19/10/2020 08:02

I think the comedian has concisely articulated where he sees himself. I think the problem is when people or organisations (looking at you , Stonewall) who don’t or selectively see it as a spectrum.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 19/10/2020 08:07

I think it doesn't matter and we should let people define themselves as they want.

Except women of course, women are absolutely not allowed to define themselves, that is for the men to do.

Mollscroll · 19/10/2020 08:13

Define yourself however you like. I couldn't care less. As long as you don't expect me to bow down to your beliefs. And as long as you don't try to take what belongs to someone else by asserting your self-declared identity.

sanluca · 19/10/2020 08:16

Shame that letting people identify however they want leads to men saying they are trans and get to compete in womens sports. Like the cycling person who has the mens record and is now on the womens team.
