Pregnancy after LLETZ

MrsKB2019 · 18/10/2020 20:37

Has anyone had a successful pregnancy after LLETZ treatment? All I have read is that it can increase the risk of miscarriage in the second trimester or early birth at 37 weeks. I know each case is different but I am really worried about it 😭

Yes! DS was very safe in there, I had an extra couple of scans to keep an eye on my cervix due to the lletz and everything was fine. He arrived 3 days after his due date and is now 9 years old xx

Notsofast1 · 18/10/2020 21:55

I had a lletz done in Feb had my daughter a year later. She was born 5 weeks early after my waters went at 34+5 however my consultant (I'm pregnant again now) has absolutely no idea why and isnt concerned at all this time round. He doesnt want to do extra scans and when I asked the question about the lletz he said they only consider it an issue if you've had 3 or more of them. My daughter was absolutely fine btw and didnt even need a stay in nicu. My sister also had a lletz (much deeper one than mine) and had her son by induction 2 weeks overdue because he was so snug in there. Easy to say but I would suggest you dont worry about it.

Rotundandhappy · 18/10/2020 22:44

Me! I have! I had a lot of cervix removed in my LLETZ and so had regular cervical length scans. All fine! No stitch needed. I would say the advice my doc gave me was stay active and keep exercising to minimise pregnancy weight gain.

I had an elective CS in the end as I also didn’t want to risk hours of Labour only for my heavily scarred cervix to only dilate to a certain point. But that’s actually not very common.

VestaTilley · 18/10/2020 22:46

I had LLETZ and had a healthy pregnancy- DS went overdue!

I had cervical scans three times in pregnancy to check I didn’t need a stitch put in, but it was all fine.

Cakeandcustard123 · 18/10/2020 22:50

Moderate amount of cervix removed 2012. 2015 - got pregnant 2nd month of trying and gave birth to daughter at 39+5. Never caused any problems whatsoever.

Sayitaintsoiwillnotgo · 18/10/2020 22:53

Similar to PP. Fair amount removed of cervix, didn't need a stitch but was under consultant who checked alongside scans that everything was ok. Ended up 2 weeks overdue and induced! Human body is a miraculous thing!

Pl242 · 18/10/2020 23:01

I had LLETZ when my DD was about 9 months old and I was still bf. I remember, like you, being a bit freaked out by the literature and some risks having it whilst breastfeeding and becoming pregnant. Happy to say that I became pregnant with DS a year later and was lucky to conceive pretty much straight away I had extra scans to check cervix but all was ok. I didn’t have to have much treated with the LLETZ though. Good luck. Know it’s a worry but I said to myself that, at the end of the day, better to have the treatment than not have it.

sausagedoglove · 18/10/2020 23:05

No one told me there were any risks to pregnancy after LLETZ. My booking-in midwife classified me as low risk despite me telling her of my LETTZ procedure and having it recorded on my maternity notes, i never saw anyone to get my cervix checked in pregnancy despite going in to A&E several times in the second trimester with bleeding. Gave birth to my son at 20 weeks who was born with a beating heart but sadly too small to carry on for very long.

We pursued legal action against the NHS trust but our lawyers told us we'd spend more money fighting to case than any compensation we'd receive.

I miss my baby everyday.

Neolara · 18/10/2020 23:11

sausagedoglove - very sorry for your loss.

I had lletz and got pregnant one month later. Dc2 was born at 36+6, but dc1 had been born at 37+4 so I'm not sure the early atrival was due to lletz. Dc3 arrived 2.5 years later just before 40 weeks.

Changedmynameagain1 · 18/10/2020 23:16

Yes I had two sections of my cervix removed between DS and DD.

My cervix was short, and shortened in pregnancy so I was on progesterone pessaries daily from 24 weeks until 36 weeks. I was on work from home if I could and told to take it easy.

She came at 37 weeks.

Sugarhouse · 18/10/2020 23:18

Yes two babies after and no problems my first was two weeks late and I had to be induced second also after due date. Try not to worry I believe risks are minimal no one was at all concerned in my pregnancy about it. I think if you have had it multiple times risk may be slightly higher.

SlipperyLizard · 18/10/2020 23:22

I had LLETZ in my early 20s, had two DDs in my early 30s, one was induced early due to high BP, the other was full term. Both labours were quick, no idea if that has anything to do with it.

MintChocAddict · 18/10/2020 23:26

I had first DC at 33 weeks a number of years after LLETZ. It wasn't mentioned to me that early arrival could be a possibility so no additional monitoring. I only really made a possible connection after the event.
Second DC I had cervical length monitoring at their suggestion until (I think) end of second trimester/start of third, no stitch required and ultimately baby was overdue.
No idea if first DC being premature was linked or just a coincidence.

FloraButterCookie · 18/10/2020 23:28

Yes, didnt affect me at all in pregnancy :)

89redballoons · 18/10/2020 23:31

@sausagedoglove I'm so sorry to hear about your baby.

I had a LLETZ under general anaesthetic four years before I got pregnant. I told my midwife at booking in but she pretty much batted it away and said I was low risk. I read some of the literature about the risks but decided to trust my midwife that it wasn't an issue.

In my case, my DS arrived healthy after I went into labour spontaneously just a few days before his due date. However, I did have quite a few episodes of bleeding in my third trimester and when I went in to the antenatal assessment unit about this, the midwives and locum doctor there attributed it possibly to the LLETZ. I also had a very fast and furious labour for a first baby, resulting in a pretty bad tear, and I've read that can be associated with having had a LLETZ too.

If I have another baby I'm going to push for consultant care because of this.

Hi there, first time posting on mumsnet so please bear with me.
Looking for some advice/reassurance from older mums out there.
I had LLETZ procedure about 3/4 years ago for CIN2 cells, I'm not sure how much of my cervix was removed. Future smears all clear.
I have 5 year old little girl, she was 3 weeks early (this was before I had procedure) and found out I was pregnant a couple of days ago. I'm unfortunately going through an early miscarriage (I'm only 5 weeks) so pretty upset.
I'm 36 now so older to be having my second.
I'm worried that the combination of being a bit older and because I had the LLETZ procedure my chances if having another child maybe limited.
Is there anyone out there that's had anything similar but gone on to have another child with no further problems?
Thank you

ftm202020 · 25/11/2020 21:33

I have had 2 babies after LLETZ treatment. One was born at 39 plus 5 and the other at 40 plus 3.

ftm202020 · 25/11/2020 21:34

I should have added both very low risk and had home births with zero complications.

Hi

I've gone on to have an early miscarriage and then two babies after a LLETZ for CIN 2/3.

I had a 5 week miscarriage approx 3 years after my LLETZ treatment.

I then quickly went on to have two successful pregnancies.

The first of the two successful pregnancies was only two months after the early miscarriage.

@CheesePleaseLoueese and @ftm202020 thank you very much for your experiences.
Can I ask, how old you both were when you had your pregnancies?
Thank you for making me feel a bit better about things X

@Lorakn27 I had my first child at 28, LLETZ at 34, then my two further babies at 37 and 39!

VestaTilley · 26/11/2020 07:44

Hello, I had a punch biopsy then LLETZ - I successfully carried DS all the way to term and beyond! Think he went overdue by a week.

I had 3 or 4 cervical scans during pregnancy and it was all fine.

LifeAfterLletz · 26/11/2020 09:02

Hi all, thank you for your replies and variety of experiences. I've had my booking appointment and they booked me with a consultant who I'll see a few days after my 12 week scan. So I feel like things are under control at the moment. I've got bloods today. Think I'm going to get told off for not eating enough as I feel sick ALL the time.

MrsMonkeyBear · 26/11/2020 09:07

I had LLETZ and 2 successful pregnancies. I had internal scans at 20 weeks with both to check the length of my cervix. Dd1 was born at 41+1 and dd2 was born at 39+6.

Lorakn27 · 26/11/2020 13:11

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment.
I feel more positive moving forward. I just need to get through the next couple of weeks.
Thank again @CheesePleaseLoueese @VestaTilley @LifeAfterLletz and @MrsMonkeyBear x
