Yellow stickered items stolen in supermarket

Hi, I chanced upon some nice Asda yellow stickered items (cream cakes, vanilla cream sponge cake), reduced to very cheap. I don’t usually shop at this time do so was pleased to be able to get some bargains for family for dessert.

Got to till and remember setting them on conveyor belt. Got home and realised they were not amongst the shopping. I checked receipt and I hadn’t paid for them, so it’s clear someone has taken them whilst I was scanning my own shopping (they’re one of those standalone self/scan tills) and talking to assistant. There were a couple of people queuing so one of them has taken them.

The cakes are no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but the thought that people will help themselves to your shopping is really annoying!

Has this happened to someone else? Do people do this because it’s not technically stealing as I hadn’t paid for them yet?

An actual knock-down, drag-out brawl broke out over trolley poaching in my local Walmart one day right before Christmas a few years ago. The would-be thief got her ass handed to her on a plate but sadly both parties were thrown out of the store.

Ok I’ll come clean, I once went to Tesco on a very hot bbq bank holiday Monday, obv to stock up on rolls and sausages. One family had taken every single packet of rolls off the shelf, their trolley, one of the big ones, was completely full with them. So yes I took a packet, as did a couple of other people. 😁

I just wonder how you even enjoy the cake knowing you took it from someone else! Some people will enjoy it even more because they've been "smart" and taken it from a "loser"

Never had this yet, but I am keeping an eye open from now onwards! They will lose a hand if they ever get any close to my shopping!

bit like that show whose name escapes me-you got given a bag with ingredients? think there was a red pepper v green pepper?

I loved that show. Watching someone open a bag to find 6 eggs, a turnip and a jar of chocolate covered anchovies . . .

I do my shopping on my break and leave it in my bag near the till for the last half hour before we close up.

Several times I've caught people eyeing up my shopping, especially if I leave orange stickered stuff on top. But fortunately I have line of sight to it and anyone trying to go through it gets very short shrift!

(They are usually very apologetic, but then, when faced with an enraged shop assistant wielding a box cutter, they haven't got much choice BUT to apologise).

Cheeky fokkas! I’m going to try and catch someone doing this now...
