to think that the Tate Modern is not the place for kids to wear heelies???

I took dd there recently and it seemed like half the kids there were zooming about on heelies. I think they are great - but its an ART GALLERY ffs! Why the hell would any parent think that's ok??

You are of course right BUT what a good space for wheelies, I'd be tempted if I had a pair and I suppose it is a good way of getting dc's to a gallery.

edam · 13/10/2007 12:59

I bet one of the little buggers darlings trips over the crack in the floor. Won't be looking so smug then, will they? (Except when ClaimsRUs screws the Tate out of £1m+)

Hulababy · 13/10/2007 13:01

Don't like heelies anyway so YANBU.

duchesse · 13/10/2007 13:06

Falls into the crack in the floor, more like. You could lose a child down there...

cornsilk · 13/10/2007 13:08

Agree the tate modern is a brilliant space for heelies. I've said that danger loving ds can't have them so I seethe inwardly whenever we encounter them. But I think it would be funny to see the faces of all the 'serious' art lovers as heelie wearing kids zoomed by.

zippitippitoes · 13/10/2007 13:10

i think it is abrilliant place for them....

BeetrootMNRoyalty · 13/10/2007 13:12

It is a fabulous place for them, easy, smooth - god aren't art galleries meant to be fun too?

cornsilk · 13/10/2007 13:12

Maybe they should have 'heelie time' - just for kids.

PeachesMcLean · 13/10/2007 13:23

Saw a little toddler having a wonderful time just running down the slope in there. She thought it was great. In fact, perhaps heelies should be compulsory in the turbine hall - seems to cry out for it. (would draw a huge line in having them in the gallieres though)

What did you think of the crack though?

hercules1 · 13/10/2007 13:25

Personally I dont think there is a place for kids to wear heelies but I hate them.

Lulumama · 13/10/2007 13:27

erm, as long as they are not bashing into people or knocking things over, i thikn it is fine.. at least they are at a gallery and not complaining they are bored whilst their parents' enjoy themselves.

stripeymama · 13/10/2007 13:28

It was just before the crack. But will go to see that next time we are in London - what did anyone else think? Can hear dd already... " Look mummy, somebody very naughty broke the floor"
And I can see its a tempting space for heelies, and kids should be encouraged to go to galleries. Mind you dd gets no choice in the matter as I am a nasty dictatorial type.

Would you ride a bike in there?

PeachesMcLean · 13/10/2007 13:33

I thought it was quite impressive - does look like the building has split and you wonder about the strength of the building above. I sat and read the write up in the leaflet they hand out. Seemed to make a lot of sense with that, so was quite interesting. I like the fact there'll be a permanent scar in the building.

Can you tell I'm -not- a huge conoisseur of contemporary art Was most amused by calling it Doris's Crack.

Amethyst8 · 13/10/2007 13:34

Wouldnt bother me at all. Would cheer me up to see kids in an art gallery one way or another.

hatwoman · 13/10/2007 13:34

I'd never thought of that...I'm off to buy myself a pair of heelies. the turbine hall would be heely heaven.

PeachesMcLean · 13/10/2007 13:35

not

Doh. 2 hyphens.

MrsWeasley · 13/10/2007 13:37

As I turned a corner I was told to "get out the way" at a school today as the little darling were having races on heelies!

The parents were sitting in the waiting area drinking coffee

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 13/10/2007 13:39

I always carry a pocketful of gravel with me to chuck in front of irritating heelie-ing children.

MrsWeasley · 14/10/2007 22:25

LOL

ninedragons · 15/10/2007 09:56

They should organise a demolition derby in there one night after hours: kids on heelies versus grumpy old people on mobility scooters.

BrownSuga · 15/10/2007 13:36

not in art galleries,
not on high streets
not in shopping malls
not in restaurants
and def not in my house!

bah humbug

kslatts · 15/10/2007 14:20

Maybe they hadn't planned on going to an art gallery when they left home, maybe it was a spur of the moment decision, the art gally obviously don't have a problem with it otherwise they would refuse entry.
