To ask if this is fraud

I posted earlier about letting a relative use my address for her to register with a GP. When I’ve talked about this with my partner he’s said it’s fraud if I let her. Aibu to think it isn’t? As she would only use our address for that purpose.

Why doesn’t she just change GPs? She is entitled to do so, she doesn’t need all this second address shenanigans.

She would be out of catchment for our surgery.

It's not about GP out of hours though, but could be district nurses.

Say she has an accident, is discharge home and need nurses to come every day to change her dressings. These will be allocated on the basis of her GP registration so if she leaves outside theatre, they could refuse to go the extra miles, whilst the community care responsible for her area could turn her down because she isn't registered with a local gp.

wowfudge · 22/10/2020 13:20

Surely there's another surgery in her home area or she ask to speak to a different GP at the practice?

Winebottle · 22/10/2020 13:28

She may be commiting low level fraud, depending on her motivations but you are definitely aren't doing anything wrong.

RaisinGhost · 22/10/2020 13:30

I probably wouldn't bother doing this, but some of these replies! "Oh but what if she takes ill in the night and needs a home visit?" Grin If you are that sick at night that you can't survive until morning you'd go to hospital.

Are people picturing the town doctor being rung up at home or fetched by someone and they come to your bedside? Unless you live in a small village in the 1800s I doubt that will be a problem!

Iftheclouds · 22/10/2020 13:33

From experience doctors doing home visits is very rare.

@RaisinGhost, you are missing the point that home visits are not just about urgent GP visits.

Livedandlearned · 22/10/2020 13:38

I liked the "takes ill in the night" comment too

JemimaTiggywinkle · 22/10/2020 13:46

To answer your question only, as you don’t seem to want any other input - yes it is fraud, as she is knowingly giving false information.

Eviebeans · 22/10/2020 14:06

Tbh I don't think whether it would affect the chance of a home visit is relevant any more. I think that's harking back to Dr. Finley's casebook...
