To wonder what I'm doing wrong with my wax melts!

Sorry boring I know but AIBU to think my wax melts should smell of the fragrance they're supposed to and not just wax?
Never used them before but yesterday bought some wax melt cubes, tealight candles and a wax melt burner thingy from Asda. They're crap! I hoped to have the room smelling of cherry but all I can smell is wax. Wondering if I'm not using it correctly?

The asda ones are usually really good in my opinion. I love the fruity ones and find them really strong. Can you smell them in the packet? (Just checking you have bo loss of smell Grin )

Did ot properly melt? For one of my burners I have to put a candle onto of another to get it high enough to melt it. Not recommended if not beside it incase of it falling.

To get it out easily just light the candle and wait a couple of mins. It will melt slightly at the bottom and you can just slide the whole thing off and pop new one on

Bought some today soy wax from a local seller the room smells gorgeous tonight and I have not lit one just in the mesh bag they are fragrancing the room.

Was told the trick to getting the wax out was to put burner in freezer for half an hour then you can just pop the wax out. I watched my friend do it, amazing so much easier.

yelyah22 · 17/10/2020 22:55

We bought some Heart & Home Bamboo wax melts from a service station of all places recently (the Oudwood and Geranium scent was so nice I had to buy it!) and they were excellent - you can get them online I think, worth a go!

Theonewiththecandles · 17/10/2020 23:01

Probably not doing anything wrong, maybe just a bad batch or not a very strong smelling type of melts!
Soy wax are better than paraffin which is what most supermarkets and cheaper brands use. Deffo worth looking to see if there's someone in your area that makes them instead.

ScentSationals?

If so, they are made with a paraffin wax mix which is why you can smell the wax. Soy wax is much better, it allows the scent to come through and is more

No,it isn't. Soy wax is awful for the environment. Gmo grown, chemically extracted and processed. Then there's the deforestation and soil erosion that growing it causes. It takes 6 tonnes of soya beans to make one tonne of soy wax then it has to be shipped over from the other side of the world

I buy the Yankee ones or I burn citronella oil from the health shop. It's lovely and long lasting.

The best ones I've used are from Busy Bee Candles

I normally make my own wax melts from leftover bits of scented candles. I just melt the wax in a double boiler and pour it into little sillicone moulds used for sweets or ice cubes. It's fun! Or at least I think it's fun!

I’ve also bought some from Devon Wick
They smell really nice and last a long time

pumpkinpie01 · 18/10/2020 00:50

I think you just had naff ones , I get mine from a company called the smelly unicorn they are amazing -handmade and actually smell like what they are supposed to - fresh cut grass ,
Aussie miracle shampoo , banana milkshake she does all sorts and they make the whole house smell lovely.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 18/10/2020 00:55

Asda ones are eye wateringly strang but they're better if used in a warmer instead of a candle burner imo.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 18/10/2020 01:12

I have a box full of scentsy ones (I know I know. I won a raffle and got loads). They smell lovely. Then I lost my sense of smell Hmm

ThreeLittleBirdz · 18/10/2020 01:19

We always buy from Yankee candles or from a friend's website: https://www.ayrshire-art.co.uk/. His wax melts, candles, room sprays, soaps etc are all handmade and smell absolutely amazing! Smile

QueenOllie · 18/10/2020 01:34

These are the only ones I use, restock is 7pm on Fridays and stuff goes quick

I think you have just been unfortunate with your choice there. I love the scent sensations melts from Asda. They are by far the best ones I've tried. I like the floral scents and the best of all is ecru linen.

readybabyb · 18/10/2020 02:44

I don’t understand the logic of wax melts.... just buy a candle.

Nat6999 · 18/10/2020 02:48

I've got a good stash from a lady who used to make her own & did monthly wax boxes, I only use them in winter & I bought loads of wax bars & tarts. Hers are all soy wax & the scent lasts ages.

Toothsil · 18/10/2020 02:52

That's strange, I've always found the Asda ones to be very good and really strong smelling, unless it's just that particular smell that's not so strong. I've got a couple from there, I think one is Ecru linen or something and the other one is a beige packet. I have just bought some from a website I found on facebook which are really good and the service was absolutely brilliant, I believe my second order was delivered within 24 hours! The seller is called A Scent Above.

When my dc were small an electric wax burner was safer to have around than a candle. Plus they are really pretty.
JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/10/2020 06:38

To clean the burners I find using make up removal pads work brilliantly, i then use the wax/cotton pad as a firelighter in the wood burner, win win

Pinkginandlemonadeissoyummmy · 18/10/2020 08:54

So for those of you that use the Asda ones with no problem are you using a candle burner with them? Mine does melt the wax but no nice smell. Am I supposed to then scrape it out once it's melted and that's it?

Been seeing an ad for Callan Candles on FB for handmade wax melts in soy wax. Look lovely and I think not too expensive so have been looking at electric warmers on amazon this morning. Not usually my kind of thing at all but since we’re going to be home so much this winter I want it to be cosy.
