I keep seeing it around Facebook where people are saying they're 'leary about trying a new moisturiser' etc etc.. it's wary!

I’d hardly look at FB expecting good grammar !
Chester draws being a good example.

DangerMouse17 · 17/10/2020 11:47

"Bare with me" Hmm

Oysterbabe · 17/10/2020 11:47

I've never seen that ever. Is it is really a common problem?

MolyHolyGuacamole · 17/10/2020 11:47

It's also..leery

K00kiEe · 17/10/2020 11:48

I/ they 'seen' instead of I/they 'saw'.

Iamnotminterested · 17/10/2020 11:48

Should of deleted it then 😉

ivftake1 · 17/10/2020 11:49

Lay vs lie as well.

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/10/2020 11:55

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this, and I’m a terrible pedant

FallonsTeaRoom · 17/10/2020 11:59

@K00kiEe

I/ they 'seen' instead of I/they 'saw'.
That's a colloquialism to be fair. I heard that a lot in Essex/Suffolk and Norfolk.

Horse paste? Is that like potted meat?

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 17/10/2020 12:30

Life exists without facebook.
There;s probably enough crap grammar on MN to keep you going.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 17/10/2020 12:38

This is the second thread about poor vocabulary/spelling/grammar on FB in the last 24 hours. Who on earth are you all friends with on FB?

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 17/10/2020 12:40

@FallonsTeaRoom I was born and raised in Essex, with East London roots. I don't know anyone who would say I seen or they seen.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 17/10/2020 12:41

I hear wary/weary being mixed up on American podcasts, enough to make me question whether to them weary has the same meaning as wary Confused

I can remember Britney on Richard & Judy's tv show doing it!

NoGoodPunsLeft · 17/10/2020 12:42

People say seen instead of saw round here (Derbyshire)

Also they instead of there 🤷🏻‍♀️

I find people who start these tedious, goady, attention-seeking threads to be utter twats.

But, we're all different.

Haha people so sure they're cleverer than other people that they didn't even bother looking the word up in a dictionary.
EmeraldShamrock · 17/10/2020 12:54

Oh poor you life must be very frustrating.
I was one of those people that used weary instead of wary. A pp kindly pointed it out I changed when you know better you can do better.
I was done school at 15 I was sick of being poor and having crap clothing I couldn't wait to get a menial job, my school was an inner city shithole the days were spent policing not learning.
I find people who prefer to bitch over helping more annoying tbf.
I'd advise you to use your OP as your FB status where real people can see your identity.

Also they instead of there

I don't quite understand, are people saying 'over they' instead of 'over there'? Confused

That's a colloquialism to be fair. I heard that a lot in Essex/Suffolk and Norfolk

I've never spent time in those parts of the UK, you learn something new everyday! Ty.
