Half term abroad

DH wants to take DD's to visit his mum in Europe for half term while I work. They would have to isolate when there. Aibu to have second thoughts about them going? Things seem to be getting bad again and I'm worried about them all getting stuck there

I think its a stupid idea at this time tbh

MatildaTheCat · 16/10/2020 21:27

And what about when they get home? Do you have to isolate with DC?

CuppaZa · 16/10/2020 21:29

Silly idea imho

Monkeytennis92 · 16/10/2020 22:09

I agree it's a silly idea but DH is insisting!

Won’t they have to quarantine for 2 weeks in return?

nosswith · 16/10/2020 22:14

Depending on the age of their grandmother, surely the other way around would be better?

cakewench · 16/10/2020 22:16

I’d personally be ok with it. Those of us with grandparents abroad have to make tough decisions but we opted for some travel this summer as it didn’t seem fair for him to not see any family this year at all.

Monkeytennis92 · 16/10/2020 22:17

I don't think they'll have to quarantine when back from this particular country? She is in her 60's

Which European country? How old are DDs?

Taswama · 16/10/2020 22:19

Which country? Plenty of European countries have much lower rates than ours.

Monkeytennis92 · 16/10/2020 22:21

They're going to Ireland - Cork. DD's are 10 and 11

Half of me says yes do it

Other half I think gosh. The numbers in cork right now through the roof

Is it worth the risk !!??

TheRonettes · 16/10/2020 22:35

The numbers in Cork are spiralling up, and NPHET are recommending the entire country goes to a level 5 lockdown for six weeks, which could start any time. It would be an insanely stupid thing to do.

NualaSays · 16/10/2020 22:40

We’re in Cork and with a young child at school, haven’t seen our parents indoors for weeks even before visiting another household was officially stopped. Quite apart from it contravening guidelines about not mixing households, and putting your mother at risk, do you realise flights have been cut to the bone and Ryanair is shutting down in Cork and Shannon?
