Am I daft? Felt like I caught someone's eye on a Teams call....

Earlier today there were around ten of us on a Teams call. Loads of small squares. I looked over at someone (neither of us talking) and they quickly looked away - like you do when you're been caught staring at someone...

Am I mad? Obviously people are in different square layouts on different computers. But, there was a definite linking of eyes for a second and then the other person quickly looked away a bit embarrassed. Or at least that's how it looked to me!

AIBU to think they were looking at me? Or am I just bonkers?! Has this happened to anyone else?

@flyingant

That's not possible, surely. If it looks like someone is looking at you, it just means they are looking directly at the camera. If they were looking at your picture on the screen, they wouldn't be looking at the camera, which would look to you as though they were looking somewhere else, not directly at you... I think!
100% this

No it'd an illusion. He could have been staring at Trevor from finance. Or Melanie's collection of Beano annuals.

I've admitted (on here or the other thread - I'm not sure which one) that I was a bit tipsy /pissed when I posted the OP. I'm not as daft as I sounded last night - honestly. I'm normally sensible.

But, sometimes, one on one, I'm looking intently at the screen and looking into the eyes of the other person. Looking at the screen - not the camera, which is above the screen... Iyswim.

To the PP - I agree it is probably an illusion.

But, devil's advocate here, if he was gazing at me and I was looking away from him (at myself probably! 🤣) and then I looked at him. The fact my line of vision then changed on his screen may have made him think I had caught him gazing lovingly at me - so he averted his eyes quickly. I'm sober tonight by the way....

I'm not sure what to say. 😂
IMO you can't tell who's looking at who on a team call.
