I thought this may be of interest to give another perspective on Covid and lockdown and how other medical professionals (They are from Oxford, Harvard and Stanford) view longer term possibilities

Do you think no one has seen this or heard of it before op? There's been loads of coverage.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 15/10/2020 22:39

Yes you are.

Oh glad someone else already said what I was going to say...

Juniperandrage · 15/10/2020 22:40

There's already been a long thread on this

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/10/2020 22:41

There’s a Covid board. Post there if you must. And do you imagine most people haven’t heard of it?

CountessFrog · 15/10/2020 22:42

Op

It’s been done before, but ffs, it’s not your fault that you don’t know this.

IAmADancer · 15/10/2020 22:43

Sorry I must have missed that thread. I only saw it because an article popped up in the spectator and when asking people about it no one knew what I was talking about. When googling it didn’t come up.

Also, I am aware that there have been some people signing with fake names etc but I like to keep an open mind and hope there may be another way out of this god awful virus before more people die, whether it be of covid, cancer, mental health issues etc etc.

Ignore them, dancer.

IAintentDead · 15/10/2020 22:45

YANBU in real life
YABU on here

Lots of us agree, lots of us and lots of other people signed it. It then had to be pulled briefly because some people (possible those feeling threatened by it) started signed silly names.

It is now back on line with more stringent controls in place. Many many people are on board. Many of us believe it is the right way forward for many reasons.

If anyone isn't sure, just go to the link and read about it. Just read it, I am not asking you to sign, that is your decision. Read it, please, it makes so much more sense than what we are doing.

CountessFrog · 15/10/2020 22:47

We are all entitled to an opinion, it pisses me off when people on here jump on posters.

Keep posting, dancer x

Ignore them @IAmADancer

lots of us are with you - some are too scared to say so on here

YellowBeryl1 · 15/10/2020 22:51

Yanbu, i know plenty of people who have signed this.

Tootletum · 15/10/2020 22:52

@IAmADancer yes I read that article in the spectator. I already had seen it though last week. The degree of censorship on matters of informed opinion is quite frightening.

HomerDancing · 15/10/2020 22:55

I am with you too @IAmADancer

I know a few that agree with it and have signed it too

Plussizejumpsuit · 15/10/2020 22:57

@IAintentDead

Ignore them *@IAmADancer*

Surely the point of an anonymous forum is you can say what you want (within reason) so not sure why you'd be too scared?

My point was just this is old news both in the media and on mumsnet. It's not really a comment on the content. Which I'm not hugely convinced of and there's the whole fake name stuff. But that's by the by as my point was its been widely shared and talked about.

Plussizejumpsuit · 15/10/2020 23:00

I also don't think it is parti new or radical to say many people from various backgrounds and political leaning have raised issues around the wider impacts of covid restrictions on physical and mental health. People have been talking about this before lockdown.

IAmADancer · 15/10/2020 23:02

@Madhairday

Whilst I appreciate you don’t agree with the declaration you must have more to back up your opinion on it then just printing a link to one newspapers perspective on it.

As I said previously, I am aware that some people have decided to sign it with fake names but I am interested to know at what point do we start to have open and honest conversations about the way forward and how we manage that?

I am currently in isolation due to my husband catching covid. I’m isolating with my family and it is taking a huge toll on my mental health and has made me think at length about the current state of affairs. Do we just continue to gradually loose our freedoms and end up in some quasi communist rule or do we have actual discussions to find a way forward that supports the vulnerable and at risk whilst also supporting those with other health concerns and letting the vast majority of the population continue with their lives?

OP posts:
IAmADancer · 15/10/2020 23:04

There has been quite a bit of talk that the media has done it’s utmost to quash this due to Ofcom guidance around covid. That for me crosses a line that I don’t believe we should be crossing.

We are a democratic nation that doesn’t seem to be behaving particularly democratically

OP posts:
starfro · 15/10/2020 23:12

Public opinion is moving in that direction. Give it another few months of Tier 3 restrictions and rolling lockdowns, and I think the balance will be in favour of opening up.

Plussizejumpsuit · 15/10/2020 23:18

I don't think you understand what communism is. I think you might be getting it mixed up with totalitarian dictatorship.

On that statement from you on turning the country into a quasi communist rule I can't take antth you've got to say seriously. It just sounds like something from the daily mail.

You're not some radical free thinker by saying these measures are having a negative impact on people and we should get on an live our lives. People have been saying the same shit from the start.

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/10/2020 23:27

I hope your husband is better soon. Are you suggesting you shouldn’t be isolating while he’s ill?

IAmADancer · 15/10/2020 23:28

@Plussizejumpsuit

At no point have I said I am a radical free thinker, in fact to a degree I am actually quite conservative and generally will do what I think is for the good of everyone. But over the last few months I have become frustrated with the discourse around this virus and the lack of discussion or conversation. Instead it has been a series of rules imposed that are now being made law with a media that only wants to impress the worst instead of giving us all the facts to digest.

I used communism as an example due to the fact that it is lorded as the way forward for the greater good of the people but actually benefits very few. Yes there is also an element of dictatorial rule within that but I don’t feel that we are quite at the point. Although part of me worries that’s not far off.

I am fully aware that this is a very difficult subject to debate because it is emotive to people for a myriad of different reasons. But I think it is right to ask those questions before it goes to far in one direction.
