So DD is 8 in year 3, the last 3 days she Has come home with her lunch half uneaten, I’ve thought this is weird as she loves her food, so I asked her Why she’s not been finishing it. She told me that she didn’t have time. I’ve asked her what she means as I’ve not changed the amount I’ve put in there and before she was Able to finish it. She told me they have been keeping them outside until everyone lines up properly and for the last 3 days the 3 naughty kids In her class have messing around so they haven’t let them to lunch until they’ve lined up properly. AIBU to think this is unacceptable to do this for 7/8 year olds. They hardly get much time to eat as it is. I think the naughtY kids should be the ones punished, not the whole class. As they get older I can understand but year 3 is still a bit young. I hate the idea anyway of someone else getting punished for someone else’s mistakes, that’s never sat right with me what ever age.

You obviously need to ring the school to find out what is happening and complain to them.

NotOfThisWorld · 15/10/2020 12:58

I would try and find out what's actually happening it might be that they're only kept outside for a minute or two while the rambunctious kids settle down. Because there can be fewer kids in the lunch hall at the moment it might just be that there is very little time to eat.

Its a poor behaviour management strategy to 'punish' the whole class for the actions of a couple of children. Read the school's behaviour policy and go in armed with the fact that that isn't one of their consequences.

Definitely call the school. It won't just be your daughter suffering if that's how theyre handling things.

Storyoftonight · 15/10/2020 13:41

How long is lunch , OP?

Check it with the school, but before you go in all guns blazing just check with them what's actually happening. All 25 kids in my DD's Year 6 class swore blind they weren't allowed to refill their water all day under new covid restrictions. I checked with the school and it turns out they just have to ask to go to the next door classroom.

Definitely check with the school first to make sure that's what's happening and if it is point out that's it's unfair that the majority should lose some of their break time as part of a punishment for a small amount of children. Point out that your daughter hasn't had time to finish her lunch due to this.
