To want to make this holiday very special for DSS?

Taking DSS on a 'big' holiday for the first time, he is 13 and we want to make it very special for him!. We live overseas and not hugely impacted by Covid restrictions, which I appreciate makes us very lucky.
Heading to the tropics and staying in a big resort with villa's, beach and large pools. It has taken so much to get to this point so want to make it extra special for him.
We are going to ask if he wants to bring a friend from school (we'll cover the cost)
Stock the fridge with all the snacks and drinks he likes so he can just help himself.
Have booked restaurants in the local town and some nights we can get room service to the villa.
Will hire them bikes so they can go exploring.
Booked a couple of 'adventure trips'
Thinking of taking his x-box so they can have some down time in the room in the evening or in the afternoon sun.
Will buy a couple of silly inflatables and pool games to take with us.
Is there anything else that we could do to make it a really memorable experience for him?

I was probably trying to understand if asking a friend was a good idea ! But he's very excited to take his best mate and it also means he won't be so bored just with DH and I !

Definitely doesn’t need the Xbox!! They can entertain themselves in the shade!
Sounds amazing , we’re practically in lockdown so going abroad sounds like heaven!

Be prepared for sulks etc. Take the xbox - might help them mix with other kids And a chill out activity.

I find this really confusing- he’s going on an amazing holiday with a friend and posters are advising to be prepared for sulks- what am I missing?!

Thanks for all the advice. We fly on Tuesday and I'm ridiculously excited! I took him shopping 'virtually' and let him pick some what ever he wanted/needed. Also I've made DSS and his friend a 'holiday pack' each, I bought you know those drawstring bags from his favourite brand and have filled it with an inflatable pool toy, mini frisbees, rockets, skimmer balls (they have similar things but not the same) sour and unusual candy from the states, gum, zinc sticks.
I've also bought them a rugby ball and cards against humanity (the family one) and this funny fake news card game.
Hopefully they'll like them .... have I missed anything?

You sound really excited! I think the only thing to do now that you’ve planned is to take a step back and relax. Offer the suggestions but don’t be pushy about it.

Be flexible and enjoy some spontaneity. Expect plans to be changed, hiccups to occur, and to find stuff that you didn’t even know about.

Have fun! (And yes the game console is overkill, lots to do without it)
