To ask for recover experience following gynae surgery?

I’ve been waiting for a slot for endometrial ablation, tubal litigation and removal of endometriosis for over a year now and have been offered a slot for the first day of half bloody term. I daren’t refuse it as I’m desperate to get the surgery but I’m concerned about childcare. Normally I’m off with them for all holidays.

I’ve managed to get two days (day of surgery and the day after) from my childminder for my 3 year old and holiday club for my 6 and 9 year old but from day 3 onwards it’ll be me and my husband who is working from home.

What sort of state will I be in following the surgery? I’m loathe to ask him to take any time off as we’re already suffering financially following the collapse of his industry.

I had a hysterescopy and biopsy a couple of weeks ago with a spinal anaesthetic which is less invasive than what your having and was a bit sore the day after but ok. I did end up staying in overnight though as they did the op so late and the spinal took about four hours to completely wear off so I would be prepared for that. Luckily I had taken overnight things with me.

It'll be uncomfortable but workable in my experience, especially as you have childcare for the first couple of days. You'll just want to sleep for the first day or so if you're like me, you will NOT be doing the childcare runs.

I felt like I had a horrendous period after the initial couple of days, like a week or so after childbirth. Quite sore, wouldn't want a kid head butting me so I'd have a cushion or pillow on my lap where possible!

If your DH can sort feeding everyone and the DCs will be willing entertain themselves a bit more than usual, you'll be fine. They're old enough to understand that mummy has a sore tummy and to be nice Smile

Thank you, that’s very reassuring indeed!

I’ve only had the ablation element of what you’re having, but that was done while I was awake with gas and air - I had no pain after the first afternoon, and although I was bleeding for a while after it was much lighter than my periods had been, so I was back at work 2 days later.

Good luck with it all. You will feel like a new woman afterwards!
