To think I will be homeless in 6 months

I have just been told my landlords are selling the house I have been renting for 6 years.

For complicated, and outing, reasons, I pay considerably less rent per month than the market value.

I’m priced out of the private rental market so my only option is local authority housing. I have been told I am entitled to a four bedroom property. I can’t see what properties are available yet because my application is waiting to be assessed.

There aren’t going to any, are there? The person I spoke with on the phone said I will be waiting years. I’m in a desirable area in the South West with limited social housing. The properties that do come up tend to be ‘swapped’ and so never get put back in the ‘pool’. Most social housing has been bought privately.

What am I going to do?! I’m terrified.

Please can we all get some perspective on this- a poor lady has had her cat trafficked on another thread.

I'm not talking about child maintenance Lovemusic33, I'm talking about the possibility of one of the fathers paying extra to ensure their kids arent out on the street. I appreciate that some may not be in a position to do this or may not be in contact with the children but many would.

If you haven't already please speak to Shelter they're really really good

JulietteLeGall · 15/10/2020 08:07

XiCi Unfortunately not an option. The cat joke is referencing another thread where a poster has had her cat stolen by a Hermes driver...

Don't know how to tag, sorry!
What I mean re: MAPPA cases being given priority is that to be a MAPPA case you need to be a registered sex offender or have received 12 months or more custody for a serious violent offence. Never in all my years of attending MAPPA meetings have I met a council that gives priority rating to these individuals solely because of their MAPPA status, it would make my job so much easier if they did. So I just find it really hard to believe a council does this and advertises it in their website.

It sounds more important that you stay in that area, close to schools, so if I were you, I'd tell all estate agents that you are looking for a 3 bed flat to rent and will consider above shops etc., in order to stay local and within your housing benefit amount. They have 6 months to work with landlords who may have vacant properties to get it habitable. If you wait to be evicted and rely on temporary accommodation or social housing, you may end up far away from schools.
