Not an AIBU but didn’t really fit under other categories and more footfall here.

Not pod machine
We would like it to make americano, latte, espresso etc
Not too bulky or noisy - our kitchen/living area is combined

We've just changed our 15 year old Gaggia bean to cup machine for .... another Gaggia - so that would be my recommendation. We drink a lot of coffee (much more than is really good for us) and the old machine was excellent.
New machine was £450 though so more than your limit - about the same as the original one 15 years ago.

Which only has one machine listed that meets your criteria - DeLonghi ESAM2800 Caffe Corso.

Totally agree about pods - and we wanted a machine we could put in either beans or ground coffee so it's easy to swap over to decaff.

The pod machines are convenient but very inflexible and not great for the planet.

I have a DeLonghi one - don't know what model it is but it's one that fairly regularly reduced down by a fair bit.

Anything on Amazon's Prime Day?

I have a Delonghi Autentica Cappuccino but its about 600 quid so double what you said. Very good machine though!

Delonghi seems a good brand, they probably do cheaper machines that work as well

Does anyone recommend any particular beans? I like stronger tasting ones, still discovering which I like best

I get these on a subscription (works out cheaper) having tried loads from different places, these are one of my favourites if you like a stronger coffee:
thecoffeefactory.co.uk/coffees/black-bear-blend

I think the first bag is half price if you subscribe.

I have a delonghi dedica pump espresso. Perfect if you have limited space. Delonghi are fantastic. I had an issue a few months out of warranty and they repaired under warranty. I've had it 5 years and it makes a great cup of coffee. Mine is the red one in the video posted above (mine is also red Smile)

Thanks @CoffeeandCroissant
I'll have a look

Sage Barista is a fabulous machine, and easy to use and clean. I got one in January, and everyone was all "oh, but that's expensive and you could just get a proper coffee in a cafe!". I have already made my money back twice over and I've had decent coffee throughout lockdowns.
Whatever machine you get a key aspect of how good your coffee tastes would be how fresh the beans are and how much oil is left in them. Try and find a machine that will grind the beans, and buy beans roasted as recently as possible - ideally within 1 and not more than 3 weeks. Worth going to a cafe you love and getting their beans.

I'm debating on a coffee machine but is it really worth it to do one or two latte's a day? That's all I would drink.

SurferRona · 14/10/2020 16:34

Also a delonghi magnifica bean to cup here. Would recommend, but good beans essential! We’ve had it a few years now, few cups a day. Works well, even though we have short drinks with high levels of grounds, we still double up Brew at 26g ish per cup. BUT my marvellous local indie coffee shop has a Sage I would hanker over, they say is great and comes close to their coffee but a. Needs a separate grinder and b. Is £600

Blend called Drake by The Roasting Party. Delicious!

Another Delonghi Magnifica here. I bought it for OH’s birthday and even I’m now into having proper coffee on a daily basis. Not a coffee connaisseur though as I drink lattes, so I’m happy with Lavazza beans. Sometimes buy more exotic beans from a gourmet grocer for OH though.
