Hello,

I was watching a vlog (video blog) on Japan and in the background I saw a man identical to my husband, I kept freeze framing and he looked identical if I didn't know it wasn't my husband I would have thought so, I even sent the pictures to his mum and she thought it was him! It really freaked me out haha, I started to question my reality and if it was a glitch in the matrix (just kidding) but he was on the exact same street we were two months later so I'm really glad he didn't cause any trouble or they'd have gone after my husband Grin

Has anyone got any cool stories about their doppelgänger or someone they knows doppelgänger? - I really didn't believe in it before, I thought people could look similar but gosh, this man could be his mirror image!

Just for fun ofc :)

I used to work with my doppelganger, we were so alike our boyfriends used to get us confused, couldn't tell us apart from a distance or from behind, and even close up we could pass for twins. One day, I went round to my boyfriend's house in the evening, he was a bit agitated with me. Turns out, I'd ignored him when he waved at me through the window of my work. Except I wasn't actually working so it definitely wasn't me who blanked him Grin

When I was younger we were on a family holiday in Italy. Dgf came too.

We were looking around a gift shop when I turned to dgf and spoke to him.

He looked completely blank at me. Then I suddenly became aware of people staring and realised why. The guy I was taking to was the Italian shop keeper and my dgf who had just come round the aisle, you couldn’t tell the difference. They were even wearing identical out fits.

Dgf ran out of the shop as he was superstitious about meeting your doppelgänger

I sat on opposite mine on a tube & it was the weirdest thing. She obviously noticed too because we kept catching each other looking. It was like looking in a mirror.
I also have an aunt that I look exactly like, she posted a photo on Facebook recently, my DH saw it & asked when it was taken & whose baby was I holding - he was convinced it was me (he’s never met the aunt)

When i was a teen i rode a lil green motorbike with a camo jacket and a white helmet. One day my eldest brother came home and was f-ing and cussing that he had just passed me going the opposite direction in the local town. He was spitting feathers that my lil 50cc scooter could beat his boy racer ways home. It wasnt me, i hadnt been out all day. We joked it was my doppelgänger. The incident was all but forgotten until we passed each other on the same road, me heading in, they heading out of the local town. Not sure if we looked alike given the full faced helmets tho.

My nan had a pic of my grandad and half of his brothers and sisters when they were all children. One of his older sisters was 5 or 6 in the picture and you could have put a picture of me at the same age next to it and you wouldnt have been able to tell us apart. Wierdest of all, i learned after i finished my nurse training that she was also a nurse and she died a few days before i was born....

I had one at uni. At the end of a lecture someone came up to me and started chatting away about a party we’d attended only I hadn’t been to the party and I didn’t have a clue who she was. No matter how much I insisted I wasn’t who she thought I was she was so adamant that it was me! She was getting seriously irate as to why I was lying to her and just stood there dumbfounded as I walked away from her. Never found out who my doppelgänger was but the insistent girl used to turn her nose up at me every time she walked past Grin

Met a woman at a wedding who was the double of a university friend. It really freaked me out as I just felt I knew her - fortunately we got on well!

DH looked like a French politician. At the time he went fairly regularly to Paris on Eurostar. French people used to follow him up and down the train . He couldn't work out why especially as when they realised he was English they'd apologise. The penny dropped when the politician got really well known and he saw his photo in British newspapers.
Sadly he lost his election and dh's glittering lookalike career skidded to a halt.

Some of our team worked from a different location to normal as we needed some overspill office space for a while. On the second day, I went to the canteen and was astounded to see what appeared to be my mum, who is a dinnerlady, working as a dinnerlady.

On the third day, I went to the canteen and the supervisor was roaming around. She suddenly spotted me and asked if I was the dinnerlady's daughter!

Wow I love doppelgänger stories.

Although they’re probably not that strange, when you think about it.

There are only so many gene combinations to go around so there is there bound to be someone somewhere in the world that looks exactly like you.

2toe · 13/10/2020 01:19

My BIL couldn’t understand why his friend was showing him a porn magazine (long time ago so very tame by today’s standards) and was somewhat traumatised when he saw a woman that looked exactly like me in the picture.

All throughout secondary school people would tell me that they knew my sister, I didn't have a sister.

My cousin once phoned me, really cross because I had walked past him and blanked him, it wasn't me as I was at home.

I finally saw her in a restaurant and it was so strange. I don't think she saw me but I couldn't get over how alike we were. I wish I had spoken to her at the time. I haven't ever seen her since.

I went to London with a friend for a concert, my Dad was really nervous about me going. He followed the band on Facebook and noticed that they had posted photos of groups of friends in the queue, so he started looking through. He saw a photo of me but didn't recognise who I was with, so rang me straight away to find out who I was talking to and where my friend had gone. I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about, but he thought I was lying and I had gone to meet someone off of the internet. He sent me the photo and it wasn't me, but even I did a double take myself. We could've been identical twins, and we were wearing the same coat and the same colour jeans!

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 13/10/2020 02:19

My husband has a very I'd call it 'multicultural ambiguous' look about him. His grandfather is Jamaican and he is very olive-skinned and dark-featured but when he was little he had a very Asian/Hispanic look about him. There are so many videos of little kids that go viral that astound me with the similarity. It's like he has a troop of secret children I'm not aware of.

Also, I walked past my dead Father in Manchester city centre ten years after he died. Obviously it wasn't him, ascertained after following the poor bloke half way through the Arndale Centre, but it was one of those things that absolutely knock the wind out your lungs. It was mad, from his receding hairline to his stature, to the way he was dressed. I so wish my mum or sister had been with me because it was astounding.

They say you have one person who is identical to you - perhaps the world is just a smaller place for some than it is for others.

ViciousJackdaw · 13/10/2020 02:39

One of the pictures on the back of cigarette packets is of a blonde woman in a white blouse coughing up blood into a hanky. She looks just like me.

toffeekiwi · 13/10/2020 02:42

I have Swedish me and Kiwi me, we found out about each other a few years ago when we were both members of the same organisation online. It's like looking in a mirror.

81Byerley · 13/10/2020 03:00

In the 70s, my ex-husband and I were at Butlins, and he'd gone to buy drinks. While he was at the bar he was approached by a man who obviously knew him and said "Hello M! How are you doing - I haven't seen you for ages!" M didn't remember him , but thought he must know him, so he continued the conversation for a while and eventually said "I'm sorry, I really don't think I know you!" The man said "Of course you do, you're MH, aren't you? " M said yes, he was, but still didn't know the man. The man then said "Well we played squash together in Brixton every week for about 10 years, you should know me". M didn't play squash, and had only ever driven through Brixton!

This was years ago when I was younger. I was having a cup of tea and some cake in a quaint tea shop in a village in Cheshire, and this woman on the next table got up and spoke to me. she must have been a telly addict. She said hello Tyne. . do you live in England now, I use to watch your tv series years ago.. She thought I was Tyne Daly from Cagney and Lacey. But quite a few people had said this to me before.

loopy09 · 13/10/2020 03:25

I was on a bus heading home from work when my late grandfather sat in front of me. I’d been looking out of the window so hadn’t seen his face but I had a moment where I was so sure it was him. Like a goosebump, surreal feeling. He had a soft leather jacket, grey combed back hair with the distinct smell of cigarettes. As I was getting off the bus, I turned to look at him by pretending to look out of the window but he had turned also. It was only when I was off the bus that I saw his face and he was the spitting image of my grandfather. I took that as a moment of healing as it was the tenth anniversary of his death that day.

Another was when I was staying at a hotel in town with friends. We’d decided to go to a coffee shop that was opposite the hotel and as we were waiting to order, my friend turns to me and says: “isn’t that your mum?” And I turned around and saw my mum’s doppelgänger. Same hairstyle, same hair colour, same colour glasses and coat. I couldn’t believe how identical she was. I texted my mum and told her and she then told me how her friends had seen her too. As we were leaving and walking past the large window, a knock on the glass window caught our attention and the woman who looked like my mum was staring at me and it was so surreal. She headed out and approached me and in a thick Irish accent told me I looked exactly like her daughter. She was so sure it was her daughter. This was weird as my mum is originally Irish but had moved to the UK when she was nine. She showed me a picture of her daughter, and I showed her a picture of my mum. We were completely stunned. The only differences between myself and her daughter are our names and hair parting. My mum’s doppelgänger name is my mum’s middle name. We took a photo together but I’ve not seen her since.

Runningdownthathill · 13/10/2020 05:05

These stories are fascinating! I have not experienced anything like this, but people are constantly telling me they know me from somewhere or have seen me before. I also get called by my sister’s name all the time by people who don’t know her .

steff13 · 13/10/2020 05:13

I've never met her, but her name is Renee. I am mistaken for her occasionally. Once, I was waiting to be seated at a restaurant with my mother and grandmother, and a woman came up to me and started talking to me as though she knew me. Not only had she mistaken me for Renee, she was Renee's aunt!

Sorry I really don't get the bit about being on the same street and who would come after your husband? What for?!? Why does having a Doppelgänger mean someone is going to come after your husband?!?!
Cantbreathe2020 · 13/10/2020 05:34

@SakiSiam

I came to face to face with myself, and said 'Oh hello'. However I'm a twin, and was looking at a full length mirror before I realised.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
steff13 · 13/10/2020 05:35

I think she's saying the guy looked so much like her husband, if he had committed a crime, the police would have come after her husband. Because they looked alike and were in the same place.

fairydustandpixies · 13/10/2020 05:50

Years ago, a photocopier engineer came into work to fix the buggery thing that had packed up yet again. I let him in and he chatted to me like he knew me, how busy I must be working two jobs and a coincidence he'd seen me just that morning in another workplace. Turns out he'd been called out to where my sister worked and he thought we were the same person. We look nothing alike!
