Nappy woes

BigMomma164 · 12/10/2020 19:08

Looking for some sympathy
DS and the non stop nappy leaks making me wanna cry!
He's currently stuck between size 3 and 4. So we have Poo up the back with size 3 and Wee leaks with size 4. What to do?! Any advice oh wise mommas?
DS is 4 months and he goes through periods of constant leaks then good control then back to leakies again.

Reusables

mummyoneboy19 · 12/10/2020 19:37

Another vote for cloth - they’re easy! The Nappy Gurus are my go-to for advice :)

flossiegrippiter · 12/10/2020 19:38

Sainsbury's own brand solved this issue for me with DS

welshladywhois40 · 12/10/2020 19:39

Morrison's own brand - check other nappy brand sizes as they are all different.

So a size 3 pampers wouldn't hold wee for a whole night and size 4 too big but a size 4 Morrison nappy was smaller

Coriandersucks · 12/10/2020 19:40

Have you tried different brands? I found Tesco always leaked with mine but Lidl fitted perfectly.

Mylittlepony374 · 12/10/2020 19:40

Did you try changing size of his vest? We used to have constant leaks until I read on here that keeping same sized nappy but going up a size in vest (to allow more room for nappy expansion) helps. It did for us.

ohidoliketobe · 12/10/2020 19:41

Try a different brand, I had to chop and change a bit when between sizes. Some a more generous in the bum area, some seem to fit skinnier waists better. It's trial and error unfortunately

bubblybrit · 12/10/2020 19:42

@BigMomma164. Ah that sounds rough. Probably stating the obvious but have you tried different brand of nappies? I use Pampers Premium Protection and my DD is a size 6 (she’s 19 months) but they were out of stock a few weeks ago so I bought Huggies size 6 and they were massive on her! Had to return to the local store and buy size 5s. So I think sizes can be different between brands. Maybe a different brand would ‘fit’ better?

june2007 · 12/10/2020 19:43

What ones and style do you currently use? Have you ried swapoing brands. If vest or baby grow to tight you may get compression leaks.
I am a cloth fan myself but also found morrisons and boots were reasonable nappies.

Megan2018 · 12/10/2020 19:45

We use cloth, very few leaks once the fit is right. Hate disposables, they leak so much in comparison. Definitely switch!

WinWinnieTheWay · 12/10/2020 19:56

Cloth.

Curiosity101 · 12/10/2020 20:01

I agree with the previous posts. Try some different brands and make sure the vest is nice and roomy.

You could also try 3+ instead. They're more absorbent than size 3 and slightly bigger. But not quite a large as size 4.

So far we've tried loads of brands and no single brand has been a perfect fit all the time. Sometimes we had to switch brands when he sized up in one brand but leaked with the next size up in the current brand.

BigMomma164 · 12/10/2020 20:05

Thanks for the responses guys. Nice to know I'm not alone in my misery - misery loves company haha.
We had a huge prob with leakies when DS was newborn and tried lots of brands. Ended up with mamia premium which worked better for us. (Had brought a stash of pampers before DS was born but my God what a disappointment!)
I'm so anxious about trying new brands because of the previous period of continuous leaks. It's so depressing!
I'm not a cloth fan tbh as they are huge and it feels like I'm putting him in armour!

Both of mine were prone to leaking nappies if they did a poo in the car seat until they started weaning and things solidified a bit. Try some different brands but you might need to wait it out for a few months.

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 12/10/2020 20:12

Look for ones with a flexible top of the nappy, such as pampers active fit pants or I believe Sainsbury's own brand have a stretchy back. They expand with the child through the day and night so don't get too tight or too loose. I havent had a single leak with the pampers in a year of using them. Didn't leak with my eldest either.

schafernaker · 12/10/2020 20:13

4 months and in a size 4? Can I just ask what weight he is as my 2.5 year old DD wears a size 4. My 5 month old is in size 2.

I’d be trying the size up a vest approach. Or another fan of cloth over here 🙋🏻‍♀️

BigMomma164 · 12/10/2020 20:24

He's 7kg. However he's very tall and slim so an odd shaped body. We found slightly bigger nappies covered his bottom better

Lidl pull-ups were a game charger for us. Had to buy Morrison's own pull-ups on Friday. Had 3-4 nappy's leak since then.

Been using Lidl since start of lockdown. Maybe had 1 leak in that time.

Both these are size 4. Though very different in actual size. Morrison's are huge! Lidl more snug.

Mylittlesandwich · 12/10/2020 20:34

I think you need to try other brands. We now use 2 different ones. Lidl during the day and Aldi premium at night. The premium are better but they're also more expensive. He's 10 months, about 11kg and in a size 4+.

PoodleMoth · 12/10/2020 20:37

Pampers pull ups rather that fastenable nappies solved this for us. If you can get 3+ even better as they absord more but are no bigger size wise.

Queenfreak · 12/10/2020 20:40

Try not using all in one vests, or going up a size.

Skigal86 · 12/10/2020 21:06

We went through the same thing and we moved to pampers from supermarket brands and never looked back. The weight range on pampers is much smaller and worked so much better for us. Size 3-4 at four months sounds big though!
