To ask for it back

Right at the start of March we were sent to WFH, I lent a woman a spare laptop I had, on the assumption at the time it either wouldn’t be long or she would sort something out with work.
She’s still got it and I recently left the company.
I don’t need it per se but I feel like 7 months has been more than long enough for her to have got her own (I know Roughly how much she earns and she frequently mentions she just throws her partner about £100 a month as her contribution so she should be able to afford one) or arranged something with work.
I wouldn’t be unreasonable to ask for it to be returned at the end of the month would I?

No, it's yours!

FrenchBoule · 10/10/2020 10:14

Not even at the end of the month, ask for it now.

Hope you’re going to get it back.

JosiePyeTheOriginalMeanGirl · 10/10/2020 10:16

You've been more than generous. Definitely ask for it back.

forrestgreen · 10/10/2020 10:16

Hi I've got a new job and I need my laptop back, I'll pop round today to get it. See you soon.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/10/2020 10:17

Just tell her you will need it in a week (or 2)

HandfulofDust · 10/10/2020 10:27

Of course she should have given it back by now. I'd just send a message saying you hope it's been helpful but you need it back now.

Angelina82 · 10/10/2020 10:30

The woman is taking the piss. I’d ask for it back now.

MiddleClassProblem · 10/10/2020 10:33

Don’t leave or any longer. You’ve left the company, she probably thinks she doesn’t have to give it back.

fairynick · 10/10/2020 10:36

Regardless of how much money she has, surely the company can supply her with one? Either way it isn’t your problem, definitely text!

lastqueenofscotland · 10/10/2020 10:36

She’s lovely and I’d not wan to leave her in the lurch so wouldn’t ask for it TODAY (not least as I don’t have the time to go and get it until at least the end of the week) but I drop her a line saying
“Hi xxxx going to need to pick up that laptop, I’ll pop round next weekend, the company will be able to sort something in that time”
Does that sound ok?

HandfulofDust · 10/10/2020 10:38

That sounds more than kind OP.

MsEllany · 10/10/2020 10:39

She could literally go out and buy one today. Or order one online.

If she’s going to need one from work then a week is fair I think.

Purpledaisychain · 10/10/2020 10:39

Yeah that sounds more than ok. I hope you get it back with zero aggro.

Yes that sounds fair. I agree, you don’t need to whip it off her today but contact her and arrange a time/day to pick it up.
BashfulClam · 10/10/2020 10:47

The company should have given her one to start with.

fabulousathome · 10/10/2020 10:55

She'll need time to wipe it so yes, a week is fine.

forrestgreen · 10/10/2020 11:41

She's had plenty of time to be organised.
