Why was the 'COVID-19 rant' thread taken down?

RoyalSeasider · 09/10/2020 10:35

It was an interesting and fairly constructive and informative thread with people, for the most part, respecting other views.

What posts were complained about?
Why was this thread taken down?

People were posting concerns about the government handling of the pandemic - the concerns about the mix of health and politics - perfectly valid concerns.

I didn't mean to enable voting ... apologies ...

OP posts:
Kljnmw3459 · 09/10/2020 10:39

I was wondering the same

LagunaBubbles · 09/10/2020 10:44

Maybe it was a troll.

RoyalSeasider · 09/10/2020 10:47

Do you mean a troll reporting the thread @RoyalSeasider

But then who is upholding the complaint? Surely a thread should only be deleted with good grounds for deletion.

Or do you mean there was a troll posting? But it didn't read as a troll-filled post. It read as a respectful thread with differing views.

Hello @RoyalSeasider the thread was reported by users who believed it was a copy and paste of a post currently going around Facebook. We're just looking into this now.

And that's a problem, why?
RoyalSeasider · 09/10/2020 10:53

I mentioned the potential influence of the 77th Brigade on the coverage of the pandemic in the media (on behalf of the government).

Was that what was controversial?

But the existence of the covert Army 77th Brigade is a fact (in fact they are recruiting - just go to the army website).

Dishonest poster?

Thank you for the explanation.

The original post was really good though and thought provoking. Perhaps someone felt that it articulated what they wanted to say.

It's a shame to delete a thread on that basis.

Why not stop further comments with a warning that it is against the rules to copy a post from facebook?

It is the first time some people are finding the courage to speak out and the thread was supportive for many.

Anything what is copy and paste going around Facebook should stay on facebook. We don't need that crap everywhere 👀 And that's what it usually is...

If it provoked a reasonably discussion I don't see the problem.

What crap?

I'm not on facebook.

The original poster posted a interesting thread. Many poster thought so (in a short space of time before the thread was pulled).

People's thoughts on the topic of the government aren't crap. They are valid thoughts. People are allowed to agree, disagree or a bit of both, surely?

People feel as though they can't say what they think for fear of being shamed - this is an example. Blaming and shaming is damaging.

You haven't found the Coronavirus Board, then? That's full of ranters. You'll love it.

A copy and paste of a viral (aka chainmail) Facebook post just extends the reach of the false "facts" included in it. I saw the previous post and at least one of the "facts" was incorrect. It's just spreading misinformation.

Hokeywokey · 09/10/2020 11:06

MN is full of misinformation though.

HazeyJaneII · 09/10/2020 11:07

Because MNHQ have been infiltrated by gin drinking lizard people intent on the implosion of civilisation
That's what my cat told me anyway.

The one where the poster wrongly attributed a role in a film to Albert Finney?

Which fact was false? Why didn't you correct it?

Why not correct any such specific misinformation rather than try and discredit anyone who posts about it?

The original poster was posting about their feelings and feelings aren't false - they are feelings. That is not misinformation. The original poster had valid concerns about how things are being run and concerns about the future.

Lol! Ok, at least two "facts" were false. The other one was the number of deaths yesterday. I didn't fact check anything else. To the poster who asked why I didn't correct it... Because I've got better things to do than argue with an OP that posts false rubbish from FB. I reported the post for MN to look at and got back to doing something more useful. Grin

That's the irony - the thread triggered a lot of original thoughts. Which I guess you weren't able to read - because the thread got pulled.

Mind you, you were lucky enough to miss my ramblings on Signal Detection Theory amongst other things...

This so called 'chain crap from social media' was well written though. And lots of us agreed with the sentiment. I 'hate' facebook and am not on it - but I really dislike the snobbery about it. I agreed with what the poster posted, as did others.
