DD10 severe tummy pain

Posting here for traffic because I'm panicking with worry
DD is having a stomach ache since Saturday, it's not accompanied by fever/vomit or any bowel problems. A sharp pain in the middle of the belly, around the belly button. I've been to GP 2 times, both time they thoroughly examined her and said she is fine. I insisted to for urine lab test and blood test, so we are having blood test today.
It's the 7th day today and she woke up with the tummy pain, this keeps her awake in the night as well. Paracetamol takes the pain away for about 1 hour and it returns back. Sometimes it's so unbearable, I'm at a loss what to do next!

My appendicitis started like this, also dismissed by GPs until I was very poorly. Good for you for pushing for your DD, it might not be that, but if you get fobbed off again I would consider A&E. I don't say that lightly, but a constant pain that keeps her awake isn't nothing, it's hopefully nothing serious but they need to be ruling stuff out.

Appendicitis ?

Quite hard to diagnose I believe but be vigilant and if any doubt A&E straightaway.

  1. Have to checked for constipation? Sounds innocuous but can be completely horrid
  1. Early periods ?

A couple of years ago my DD had this.

Severe pain that started at night or in the evening, fine in the day. After worrying at seeing her in so much pain and making 2 trips to the doctor, the Doctor diagnosed it as inflamed lymph nodes in the stomach caused by a viral infection, for which there wasn’t a treatment but that it would last 7-10 days in total and the finish.

Obviously keep an eye on her for any other symptoms but it could be this.

Hope she gets better soon.

Children can’t always distinguish pain.My son complained of tummy pain so bad that he would roll around on the floor in agony. We worked out what caused it and stopped it by controlling his soft drink intake. Ten years later we discovered he required urgent surgery to his kidney. You were right to insist on blood and urine tests. I hope you get this sorted out soon.

Op, how’s your DD today?

hotbutterypop · 09/10/2020 23:10

update
GP referred her to the local hospital to be checked by surgical team and paediatric team. We are staying overnight at the hospital because DD still in constant pain. She will be having an ultrasound scan in the morning. I'm so relived that this is being taken serious and looked in to.
Thank you everyone who replied

I was the same age and had a similar problem and I couldn't actually sit up without screaming in pain. My temp was just under 40 degrees and they were about to send me home with a urine infection. I actually had a burst appendix and would have died had I not had emergency surgery.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your DD. Be firm with the doctors, don't let them fob you off.

dhisreadingmypostsagain · 10/10/2020 08:18

Hope she's ok OP, really worrying that they send her home with undiagnosed pain. But I'm glad you are getting scans now.

pilates · 10/10/2020 12:55

Glad they are doing further investigations.

Misskittyfantastico85 · 10/10/2020 16:56

Just checking in OP. Hope your dd is being looked after x

LeSquigh · 10/10/2020 21:00

My friends similar ages daughter has had exactly this pain and has just had her appendix out. Go to A&E, it really is worth checking out.

hotbutterypop · 13/10/2020 07:40

Update

It turned out to be appendicitis! She had her appendix removed, recovering now! I was so worried, if I had kept her longer it would've been much worse!
Thank you everyone for your support!

Result! Problem solvedSmile.

pilates · 13/10/2020 19:46

So pleased op they have got to the bottom of it. The fact that it was removed before it burst is a blessing too. Speedy recovery for your DD 💐

D4rwin · 13/10/2020 19:49

Glad it's been dealt with. Hoping for a quick recovery now.

randomsabreuse · 13/10/2020 19:57

Glad she's ok! I think kids are less "obvious" with appendicitis - I had it at the end of July and it was really obvious on palpation as it localised to the traditional spot.

Make sure she takes it easy with recovery - not too much running/climbing hills too soon!

micc · 13/10/2020 20:06

I had gastritis when I was in my teens. I remember waking up in loads of pain and couldn't eat. I was given an anti acid medication, I think it was due to me not eating enough, fizzy drinks and anxiety.
Has the doctor mentioned that?

micc · 13/10/2020 20:07

Oh sorry didnt see your post!!
Glad shes on the mend!!

SingingInTheShithouse · 13/10/2020 20:14

Look online fir a video to show you how to do the appendicitis pressure check, knowing that will go a long way to putting your mind at rest.

My guess is that it's mesenteric adenitis. Which is basically the lymph glands on the stomach swelling when fighting off a bug & in some kids the gland is closer to nerves & causes pain when swollen.

We went through years of it, even prepped for appendix surgery once & then the main surgeon reckoned she didn't needed it. A doctor taught me the pressure test & it was a godsend

She's 18 now, & finally grew out of it at 16 & her appendix is fine

SingingInTheShithouse · 13/10/2020 20:15

Oh wow, just seen your update. Shock

I hope she makes a speedy recovery x

is it likely to be connected 10 years later?! 🤔
