Haven't RTFT so don't know if there's a reason we're doing this, but want to be involved! 36.

@DebbieFiderer - close! Canadian. It's how we were taught at school; Palmer script I think it was called. But I live in the UK and people at work are always making fun of my 'Victorian' handwriting.

Poppyismyfavourite · 09/10/2020 15:30

weird... very few are like mine! I'd say mine is mostly joined up but not true cursive. It gets more slanted and loopy as I write faster. I do like my writing though :)
I don't join j's because I like to do the dot before carrying on, otherwise I forget.
I remember in the SATs handwriting test, I just changed my handwriting to exactly mimic one of the examples we were given, and got top marks! If anyone had looked at all my english papers together they might have wondered why just the writing test had different handwriting!
I also remember when learning to write I really struggled with writing an un-joined "f" until my mum showed me how to do it joined-up.

My handwriting is terrible, I was never taught writing formally and my hand is usually rushing to catch up with my thoughts.

Typing comes to mind OP, only those of a certain age would remember.

Very interesting thread.
I've been teaching handwriting this week and we are using a program which I think is technically cursive, but which has several letters that do not join. I didn't choose it, but I like it, there's something about a joined "j"that sets my teeth on edge! I don't like swirly bits and unnecessary loops in ordinary handwriting, and find a slightly angular style is quickest to write with whilst retaining legibility.
My own handwriting varies according to its purpose - in school, it's regular and more rounded and upright than my natural style, with minimal joins if it's for non-handwriting lessons. (Ssh don't tell SLT, but I think it's easier for children to read it quickly that way).

I've taken a look at my writing, and it looks like a mix of cursive and non-cursive. I think for certain letters, like j, y, g, I just don't like the fact that you have to do a long swirl to keep the writing joined up. So I don't, and my writing is quicker.

MulticolourMophead · 09/10/2020 20:11

@Seychelles98

Would you believe that I actually recognise someone's handwriting on this thread and I know it's definitely her! What a small world but I won't say who it is of course!
Well, if it's me, feel free to PM me. I find the idea of being recognised amusing.
RosieGirl27 · 09/10/2020 20:16

I’m 23 and my writing is not joined up.

@Seychelles98 haha no, but I assumed your username meant you were born in 98 and was racking my brains trying to think of all the 22 year old women I knew!

AngelicInnocent · 09/10/2020 22:20

I'm very late to this thread but I write everything in block capitals, distinguishing upper and lower case purely by size.

Not sure why but I always have.

I can write just as quickly as most people do joined up and I can write upside down too.

Think I'm just strange! Oh and I'm 46.

Leopardprintcurtains · 10/10/2020 20:01

I’m incapable of writing in cursive
