To reconsider a 4th pregnancy after 2 retained placentas?

Just as above really. A work colleague and I were discussing the severity of a retained placenta and the complications that can arise.

She told me her sister decided against having a 4th child despite really wanting one, due to the likelihood of her having another retained placenta (apparently having two previously is a risk factor and predictor of a third)

She was worried about haemorrhaging (rightly so)

I had one retained placenta and I didn’t realise at the time how scary it can turn in to an emergency. Got me thinking, whether it would put me off having another baby?

Would it put you off if you already had children or not?

I had a partially retained placenta after my 3rd and was told I would be less fertile and unlikely to get pregnant again. That coupled with my age at 41 made me less cautious and 13 months later DS was born.

In my pregnancy which resulted in DC, I had a planned csection and lost very little blood. All was text book.

In my late miscarriage, where nothing was planned or text book I effectively had a retained placenta which caused major haemorrhage meaning I lost 2.5 litres of blood, had emergency surgery and a stay in the HDU.

I guess I’d like to hope that if I was lucky enough to get pregnant and have a child again it would all just work. There’s the risk but crossing the road is a risk...

I’ve had 4dc no RP with the first, awful RP with the second which ended up in MROP and a blood transfusion.
Had RP again with the third and was more focussed on the delivery of the placenta than the baby ! Not as bad as the time before but only because I was prepared and kept on at the staff
Fourth dc no RP

Oh my goodness, really? That’s what I mean, they never made any mention of that fact it could make it more difficult to conceive when I had my retained placenta. Nothing was ever mentioned.

I just thought it was common and all fine. Perhaps ignorance was bliss...

Number one I had a retained placenta and number three in those cases I had the synthetic hormone drip which can be a contributing factor apparently number two was fine and it was the only one I had no drip with

Number 1 was a late loss with retained products. Number 2 was retained placenta, haemorrhage and then operation 4 weeks later with retained products. Number 3 big bleed but placenta came away no problem, they were aware with number three and ready with drips and injections if required.

I had a retained placenta after I lost my DS at 18 weeks pregnant, my obstetrician had to come in to get it out in theatre. I honestly didn’t worry about it with the next pregnancy, in the end DD came six weeks early by EMCS.
