To downsize to a flat in a whole new area?

I live alone, in a 3 bed house. Originally moved here so DD could go to the nearby school; she's now 22, moved away for uni and has settled there now, with a career and her own apartment with her boyfriend.

I don't particularly enjoy living here, it's a bit in the middle of nowhere (only 6 takeaways on Just Eat Grin), and I definitely don't need all this space. I never go into the garden, apart from to get to the bin, and currently pay a neighbour to keep the grass cut etc.

I've been considering selling up, and buying a 2 bedroom flat in an entirely new town. I fancy being nearer a city/town centre, with actual shops and amenities on my doorstep. I'm a nurse so would be able to get a job pretty easily wherever I moved to. Downsizing would also mean I'd be mortgage free with money in the bank. It seems a no-brainer, right?

Sounds quite reasonable but are you talking about moving somewhere where you wouldn’t know anyone? Leaving friends and family far away while also starting a new job in a new place would be too much for me.

What are the reasons you'd stay?

I live 5 mins walk from my town centre with lots of shops and cafes and various social activities (well there were...!) and I love it. It's only 5/10 mins into the countryside too. I moved from the suburbs of a city where there was basically nowhere to walk to and it felt soulless and isolated even though there were people around. I definitely recommend a town!

@MatildaTheCat Yes, although I'm generally a hermit and don't really socialise, but the place I'm looking to possibly move to is only an hour away.

Yes. Sounds like a no brainer to me.

If you have no ties to the area go for it 👍🏽

Do it! It sounds like a no-brainer to me. My only advice would be to rent before you buy so you can decide on the best location in your new town. Much easier to know exactly where you want to live once you are actually living there iyswim.
