I cant find what on looking for. Angry

Live rural so need to shop online. Have got a new job (yay me!) In an office environment and it's been so long since I did that sort of job i have no "office look" clothes anymore.

Only got a small budget until I get a few pay packets under my belt and I'm looking for trouser suits etc. I just cant find anything I like the look of without spending loads. They all seem to have trousers that are skinny at the bottom when I want a cut that will sit over some smart boots (its winter soon and want to be warm).

So aibu to be totally pissed off that after 3 hours online I havent found anything yet? Also that its hard to imagine how stuff will look on me when I'm in my 40s and a size 12, not a beautiful skinny model..........

Please help me out by pointing me in the right direction before I throw my laptop out the window in annoyance.

It gets recommended a lot here, but try Uniqlo for smart affordable work wear.

Maybe buy a nice pair of trousers now and couple of cheaper blouses from h and m?

I'm finding my size (10) is out of stock pretty much everywhere in things I would like. M&S could only offer me the choice of 3 styles of sports bra this morning. Most sizes in most styles were out of stock

I don't see me buying anything new anytime soon

Yep, separates all the way. I always wear plain long sleeved t-shirts in winter. Cheap and easy to layer if it's chilly. I work in a bank head office.

If you will be wearing a jacket/blazer over the top, I'd spend to get a well fitted one, then mix and match cheaper blouses underneath. I have a lovely M&S jacket, but got it a few years back. Sometimes found things at next or oasis.

I've picked up cheaper blouses and even trousers from asda and sainsburys, so don't forget supermarkets have clothes too.

Uniqlo is a good shout for the thermal layers - I often wear them in the office under a smarter top.

For your boots.

You absolutely must take advantage of the sales to get more for your money. And good neutral colours so you can mix n match (as we used to say in the 70s!).

Buy buy buy! These look gorgeous.

As you have such a small budget just go to your local Sainsbury's or Tesco and get a few pairs of trousers and some tops. You can feel the fabrics and your money will go a long way! I have had loads of compliments for supermarket clothes 👍

Once you start work you can see what others are wearing and add to your wardrobe from wherever you choose.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 09/10/2020 17:38

Okay - I admit to being curious about whether you've found anything ...

Imfromhere · 09/10/2020 18:39

@PersephonePromotesEquanimity

I changed my mind on shopping for stuff online. Armed with all the advice and ideas from pp I ventured to a couple of charity shops. Got a few lovely mix and match bits that will tide me over until first pay day Grin Couple of jumpers, a blouse and some nice trousers.

Well, that's good news. Glad you've managed to avoid costly mistakes.

Good luck with your new job.
