To ask if your c section was canceled on the day?

Shamessly posting here for traffic...

I am booked for an ELCS today and was told at the pre op that there's always a chance that it could be cancelled on the day, due to emergencies or complications with other patients. I totally get this and appreciate that in those circumstances there's nothing they can do about it and just to roll with it.
But as I've barely slept thinning about it, it's obviously playing on my mind.
So i was just wondering how common this is - if this has happened to you at what point in the day did they let you know you'd have to go home and under what circumstances? Were you then first on the list the next day?
For context, I'm apparently last on the PM list as it is so I just feel like if anyone is at risk of being cancelled it'd be me (if everyone else was pushed back). I'm also just anxious as we've managed to get 2 days childcare for DD 3yrs and so I worry that if it's delayed it won't be that easy to rearrange!
Thanks!

Good luck OP!! Make sure to come back and update us and provide a squishy new baby pic!

This Smile Lots of luck OP, fingers crossed everything goes well.

Minesril · 08/10/2020 09:08

Good luck OP! This didn't happen to me, but I certainly understand the anxiety; I couldn't sleep the day before mine! With me the worry was that I'd go into labour and have to give birth naturally. It's all very surreal, especially walking down to the delivery suite! You can't quite believe that it's actually happening.

Good luck OP, hope all is going well. My first was a very relaxed EMCS slotted in second on the day list as the first ELCS was diabetic. Second was an ELCS. There were five of us on the list and the fifth woman was told not to get her hopes up. I think I was second or third on the list, in the end they ended up running two theatres so DD was born at 10am.

GameSetMatch · 08/10/2020 09:24

I didn’t get my time slot of 8am, it was delayed until 1pm because of a emergency. It didn’t matter though, I understand emergency’s must come first.

Laaalaaaa · 08/10/2020 09:30

Not me but when I was waiting to be taken to labour ward after induction the lady in the bed opposite had this. She was in waiting for her section on the Saturday, it got cancelled late at night, told she was priority for Sunday barring any emergencies. My husband saw her partner a few days later - section didn’t happen until Tuesday.

WoodenFox · 08/10/2020 09:32

I've had 3 c-sections. First was emergency. Second was booked for the morning but got moved to afternoon due to an emergency. Third one I'd gone in for a morning appointment, but due to 3 emergencies I couldn't have my section until the following morning.

Happyheartlovelife · 08/10/2020 09:39

I also caused people to be cancelled

I had two emergency c sections. Me and my baby were dying. End of.

I really hope you get to see your baby today! I bet you are so excited. Oooh. I'm excited. Please keep us updated OP. Let us know xxxxxx

howtobe · 08/10/2020 09:41

First was EMCS but early in the morning so don’t know that I’d have caused a delay.

Second was a ELCS and I was first up. DS was delivered at half past nine in the morning

Hellomoonstar · 08/10/2020 09:59

I have had three sections. One was emergency for failure to dilate and the other two were finding the closest elective c-section slot available. They were no delays.

I only know two in rf who have had to come a different day.

MoreToExplore · 08/10/2020 10:58

I was moved to the next day. They told me probably around 8am, after I’d arrived and got into gown, during the bit where the obstetrician and anaesthetist come round to meet everyone.

Worked out perfectly for me, as I had wanted to leave it as late as possible but not risk natural labour. Was really anxious the first day when putting on the gown, on whether I was even doing the right thing or should pull out and go natural (it had been a 50/50 decision), the next day I was so relaxed as I’d got my last-minute questions answered the day before from the actual people who would be operating the next day.

Good luck!

@ShirleyPhallus I was enormous, I actually had people pointing at me in the hospital - including one medical student who said ‘bloody hell look at that’ very loudly.

They were two weeks early too, my section was scheduled because they were both supposed to be around 8lb. In the end DD was 5lb10, she got squashed by her brother.

Hope all went well today for OP.

Wow @chutneypig, not sure that’s how they teach them to react at medical school! Shock

How interesting, I hope your little DD has now caught up and they’re thriving.

@022828MAN hope all went well today and you got your lovely baby!

henrykissingher · 08/10/2020 23:27

I was also last on the list and it was touch and go as to whether it would be done that day but they fitted me in thank goodness

022828MAN · 09/10/2020 04:31

Hi all, thanks so much for sharing all your stories with me.
Fortunately all went to plan and our gorgeous baby boy was delivered at 1630 yesterday, the elective section was a wonderful experience compared to my previous emergency one, and I'm just over the moon with how well it was all handled, managed and organised from start to finish! 💕

Wonderful news - congratulations!

Mine was delayed because of 2 emergencies but not cancelled.

I was last on the daily schedule and DD ended up being born at 5pm instead of just after lunchtime.

Lindy2 · 09/10/2020 07:04

Oops - just seen your update. Congratulations!
