To ask how much supply teachers get paid

I'm considering doing supply. Just wondering if there are any supply teachers who would mind sharing how much they get paid a day. I'm not sure if what I've been offered seems a bit on the side thanks

Basically you stand at the front and get them to do work that’s been provided. You aren’t “teaching” so you don’t get paid a teacher’s salary.

Just out of interest, what is a ‘cover supervisor’?

It's like the school equivalent of the police force's PSCO or the NHS's Health Care Assistant. These subsidiary roles are introduced to a profession with the rationale that they can supplement the professional role with the aspects of the job that don't require a high level of expertise or knowledge, thus providing a larger workforce and liberating the professional to focus on the more advanced work.

However, it slowly de-professionalises the work as society starts to accept a cheaper, less qualified role in its place.

@LoveSummerNotIcecream

Cover supervisor is an in-house supply ‘teacher’ who usually isn’t a qualified teacher. So we have 5 permanent cover supervisors in our school
Who cover lessons of absent teachers to try and not bring external supply teachers into our school- as they kids behave so badly for people they don’t know in my school!!

Is £100 gross or net sorry?

Cornishmendoitdrekkly · 06/10/2020 14:59

Currently working as a Supply teacher near Plymouth. £110 gross per day on day to day booking. £135 long term. You should be paid to scale after 12 weeks. I was UPS2 before I walked away from my previous school.
This term I am doing 1 day a week in just 1 school as I have carer duties too. Speaking to other supply teachers has confirmed there is not much work around. I suspect this may improve after half term.

Agency charge us £200. We therefore have our own bank who know the school. Average is £160.
