To ask how much sickness you had off work during pregnancy

Hi all,

I know I'm worrying over nothing but I hate being off work sick - in the first trimester I had a lot of time off due to HG, was put in hospital twice on fluid etc so nothing really could be done - thank god it settled down by 15/16 weeks but now I find myself every couple of weeks having spells of really bad sickness - there's no pattern or reason for it, it just is what it is and it's difficult because I work on the phones so throwing up and talking isn't ideal, in 23 weeks I've had about 20 days off sick and I know it can't be helped but it doesn't stop you feeling guilty does it - how many days did you have off?

It's crap because like there's nothing I can do to help it but I feel like work will think I'm taking the mick Sad I guess it doesn't help as a girl a lot younger than me (8 years younger) had a breeze of a pregnancy and didn't take any time off although saying that she delivered 6 weeks early due to complications so you can't always tell can you?

So I just wanted to know how much time off other people have had to either make me feel like a wuss Grin or to help me feel a bit better

None but I was very lucky to have a lovely pregnancy with no sickness etc.
I work as a dental nurse so on my feet up and down etc daily. I went on maternity at 36 weeks. Used some holiday. Had DS at 38+3 then maternity started when he was a week old.

Don't feel bad for having time off. You've been poorly in your pregnancy. Don't beat yourself up over it!

None at all. Joys of lockdown pregnancy 😁

I had HG both pregnancies.

In my first pregnancy I spent around 8 weeks in hospital over 5 admissions, then up to 2 weeks off after each hospital stay. I started my maternity leave at 29 weeks. So I was barely in work!

Second pregnancy I only had to take a few days off, I was hospitalised once but it was between Christmas and new year so I was off work anyway.

First pregnancy I had no time off. I finished work 6 weeks before due date by choice as I had lots of leave saved up. Second pregnancy I was off for the last four months because I had breathing difficulties, to the point I was in and out of hospital having chest xrays and all sorts. It didn't get better until my baby was born and now I have been diagnosed with asthma for the first time in my life. Bizarre. Don't regret it though because I couldn't have coped with work on top of the stress of being relatively unable to move plus a 18m - 2yo.

8 weeks off in early pregnancy with HG and then another eight weeks at the end with crippling PGP.

31weeksgone · 05/10/2020 23:36

8.5 months with severe severe HG and then PGP/SPD. Basically if I moved I vomited, and if I moved I screamed in agony. I was basically bed bound for 9 months and lost around 4 stone. And people say “when’s the next one?” Still 4 years on Shock

I felt awfully guilty for work. Now I look back and think why?! I couldn’t help it!

Krazynights34 · 05/10/2020 23:40

None, but like pp I nearly died with my first (she did die) and my second was planned c-section (because she’s so disabled). Honestly wish I’d taken months off for the way I felt with DD2, but I was new in a job. Couldn’t go back to it, so what was the point?
Lesson... on your death bed you won’t give a shit about work!

Sceptre86 · 05/10/2020 23:41

I had one week off with my first pregnancy due to bleeding. With the second I didn't have any time off but was working part time by that point which helped.

The first three months I took off.
