How clean is your house?

Finding it a bit much working part time and looking after my toddler, so decided go spend some money on a cleaner. Two of them will come every other week for three hours a time. They’ll do a whole house clean each time-polish, vacuum and mop whole house, all bathrooms, kitchen full clean including oven and fridge, bedrooms, windows etc. In between this I plan to wash the dishes/clean kitchen daily as usual and toilet clean bleach..would you say this is enough or i need to do full house clean in between. My house is very tidy but I hate cleaning! 🙈I cook from scratch, food shop, work etc no problem, but really struggle to clean around Dd.
How often do you clean and how do you organise it?

I'd probably vaccum as well but I've 5dc, 2 cats & a dog so it needs doing daily Blush. I'm not saying do it daily btw, just 1-2 a week or else if there are bits on the carpet they'll get ground in by being left for a fortnight.

I sahm now, when I worked (only had 3 dc then) I did a quick clean every night while the dc were otherwise distracted, if it couldn't be done in 30 minutes it waited until the next day. We weren't really in though so it didn't get that dirty. Then at the weekend Dh would do either upstairs or downstairs & I'd do the other, with the dc helping & it would be clean in an hour, max. Now, I run the vacuum round daily, wipe the kitchen & bathroom plus 1-2 loads of washing then leave any bigger job for the 2.5 days dc5(3) is at nursery.

I think you'll need to vacuum more than once a fortnight to have a clean house.

Mine is vacuumed three times a week and all the hard floors are mopped three times a week too.

pepsicolagirl · 05/10/2020 16:13

Hi, I am the worst at this.

I just cleaned my blinds (the slatty kind) for the first time in the 2 years we have owned them.
I vaccuum as and when I feel it needs it. Maybe twice a week now - it was daily when we had a dog.
mop the floors as little as possible, maybe once a week?

FlorenceNightshade · 05/10/2020 16:14

I try to hoover daily, sometimes twice daily depending on what the kids have been eating!! Wipe down kitchen every day, load and unload the dishwasher, toilets after every use and randomly clean up spills etc as they happen. I like an empty laundry basket so usually run at least one load a day and make sure it’s sorted into piles for everyone to put away once it’s dry.

I work full time and work shifts so I do a bit less on nightshifts and a bit more on days off to balance it. It’s what you can live with isn’t it what’s too much for one person isn’t enough for another

nitsandwormsdodger · 05/10/2020 16:14

Can you afford one of those robot hoovers

ohidoliketobe · 05/10/2020 16:14

I have a cleaner once a fortnight. I don't do a "full" house clean in between, but I do hoover and mop as needed, wipe the kitchen sides down as needed and the bathroom sinks for the odd bit of toothpaste.
It's more the scrubbing of the shower screen and the odd little nooks and crannies I don't have to bother with anymore.

Thelnebriati · 05/10/2020 16:15

You sound like a dream client for a cleaner, because you're tidy. You might have to clean the bathrooms, mop the kitchen floor and hoover, it depends what your tolerance is.
Try it for 3 months and see how it goes.

pepsicolagirl · 05/10/2020 16:17

I am doing team TOMM though. Started today. Should make it more manageable

Pumpkinnose · 05/10/2020 16:17

I’d opt for one 3 hours per week, not 2 every fortnight. Is that an option? Then they can keep on top of the key jobs whereas things like oven/fridge can be done by you in between. Whether 3 hours is enough depends how big your house is!

MJMG2015 · 05/10/2020 16:18

Could you have them weekly for fewer man hours? That's what I'd do.

1.5 hrs x 2 cleaners (so 3 hours cleaning time) should get you a reasonably decent clean once a week - unless you have a very large house. Especially if you tidy up properly the night before.

GiraffeNecked · 05/10/2020 16:18

We have 2 hours of cleaning once a week from an agency. That keeps the basics under control - and I know all the floors have been hoovered, mopped, kitchen cleaned and bathrooms cleaned every week.

In between we have a robot hoover for upstairs which gets sent round most days. Surfaces wiped in kitchen every day. Stairs hoovered and kitchen floor mopped maybe once a week....

It's not unclean but its not sparkling (well it is just after the cleaners have left), but we have a dog and cat and both work full time.

Iamblossom · 05/10/2020 16:19

My cleaner does what your cleaners will do.

I still hoover every day because I have two black dogs. I wipe kitchen surfaces every day, but that's about it unless I need to spritz the family loo and bathroom (2 teenage sons Hmm), will sometimes also wash the playroom floor if the dogs have trod mud in.

taabitha · 05/10/2020 16:21

What pp said. You'll need to hoover in between - how often probably depends on the age of your DC. Mine are young so I normally hoover daily in the kitchen and living room where they drop crumbs etc. Also wiping down kitchen surfaces plus bleach down toilets.

GreyishDays · 05/10/2020 16:23

You’ll notice it’s a bit grubby by the end of the two weeks, but you’ll live. Smile

Frazzled13 · 05/10/2020 16:25

Wipe down kitchen every day, load and unload the dishwasher, toilets after every use and randomly clean up spills etc as they happen

Am I reading this right? You clean the toilet each time it’s used? Shock

vanillandhoney · 05/10/2020 16:26

Our house is pretty spotless but it's all down to personal choice. Some people can live with a bit of mess and dust, others struggle, so I don't think hearing everyone else's cleaning regimes is going to be much use.

Some people have lots of pets, some don't, some are out all day, some are SAHM - all that will impact on cleaning regimes and how necessary it is to do various jobs.

Lollypop4 · 05/10/2020 16:34

I work pt and have 4 dc, 2x teens, 2 under 5.
The kids do chores daily, toys away make beds for the younger 2. older 2, dishes, fold and put away clothes.
I hoover downstairs daily,Bleach and wipe bathroom daily, kitchen sides are wiped several times a day, mop every other day, hoover upstairs once a week, change bedding once a week, oven clean once a month, polish dust down every week.
Im forever cleaning and its exhausting, wont even tell you how much clothes washing I have daily- its insane.
My dp works very long hours every day but def should help out more!!
It sounds like your new routine.is good though.x

LakieLady · 05/10/2020 16:40

It depends on how messy you are.

My standards are pretty low, but we spray the shower after every use and wipe the bath/basin straight after use, so they never get properly minging. And I squirt Harpic down the lav every night to keep the limescale at bay. I think not touching them for 2 weeks might be a bit much.

But unless you plan on leaving your worktops to grow a culture and stuff like that, that should be fine.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 05/10/2020 16:46

My cleaner comes every two weeks. In between I have a quick Hoover downtstairs fairly often (hardwood, 3 cats, fluff city). Keep the kitchen and loos/sinks clean, and unless something is spilt etc that’s pretty much it. Just DH and I so no mucky kids Grin

ChronicallyCurious · 05/10/2020 16:46

We live in a two bedroom flat. I wipe around the kitchen worktops and table each morning after doing the dishes and also sweep the kitchen and front room floor. We also wipe down the bath and shower with bleach sprays after using them.

Then we do a joint deep clean of the whole flat every Sunday. This means cleaning everywhere, sweeping, hoovering, mopping, fresh bedding, bins out. I also do the washing once a week. Do general stuff such as wiping the toilet and toilet cleaner down a few times a week too.

wink1970 · 05/10/2020 16:47

You'd be better off having 1 x cleaner every week - my experience of paired cleaners isn't positive, it's usually done by agencies so they don't have to send the same person, under the guise of 'heavy lifting'

You will get far more out of a regular weekly clean by the same person.

FlorenceNightshade · 05/10/2020 16:53

@Frazzled13 I clean it after each time I use it. I live with all boys so usually it needs it Confused

Okokokitsout · 05/10/2020 16:53

We don't have kids but have 2 cats. We kind of clean as we go with the kitchen. We do a weekly clean in the house then a top up clean where we tidy and hoover plus clean down surface that need it. I'd definitely say you need to hoover more than fortnightly.

We have a cordless phone which makes it so much easier.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/10/2020 17:03

Just me, DP, and a very hairy cat here.

Loo and sink cleaned every couple of days, whole bathroom once a week
Washing done every couple of days - with designated slots, eg, bedlinen on a Saturday, towels on a Wednesday
Bed changed weekly, spare bed sporadically
Daily floor sweeping
Weekly hoovering - but tbh this should be more for all the cat hair! Weekly polishing. Weekly mopping.
Kitchen surfaces wiped down every time they're used, pots and pans done immediately after cooking, everything else in the dishwasher.

I would love a cleaner. I feel like everything is much messier now we're at home 24/7!
