To buy christmas stocks for the grown ups

I know its ridiculously early but Christmas products have already appeared in stores near me and things are already starting to sell! With a newborn baby in the house it's time to buy our first Christmas stockings.

I found some cute ones that have the first initial of the person on the front or a pet paw. Am I being unresonable to buy one for each of us (mum, dad, baby, and cat)? Or are stockings only for children?

Buy them for everyone 😀 where are they from?

FlatandFabulous · 05/10/2020 05:50

Of course buy them for everyone, this is your chance to make your own family traditions - enjoy!

slashlover · 05/10/2020 06:02

I still get a stocking from my parents and I'm 42. Grin Chocolate coins, hand cream, fluffy socks etc.

I also get an Easter Egg but apparently am old enough to buy my own advent calendar.

We have a sticking each and they get filled with treats each Christmas eve. I like to go to bed before DH so when I wale up 'Santa' has been 😂

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/10/2020 06:47

Stockings are for everyone. My favourite bit of Christmas.... DDs bring their stockings into our bed and we all open them together.

aprilanne · 05/10/2020 06:53

My DH buys my advent calendar! I'm 44 and never bought my own. I get the Boots makeup one now though, rather than chocolate. 😁
TheNoodlesIncident · 05/10/2020 07:59

Just be aware that you might have to be buying for and filling your own stocking, and if all the rest of the Christmas workload falls to you, it might be the first job you chuck aside.

If you have a DH who is on board and happy to do some of the festive jobs, including doing a stocking for you, then go for it.

I bought one for the cat too as our dc is an only, but I couldn't face doing them for DH and I, as I would have ended up doing it all and it's not as much fun when you know what's in it (although you do get exactly what you wanted, there is that!) Not DH's fault as he works very long hours

MinnieJackson · 05/10/2020 09:22

Yeah I do the children and Dh a stocking and my mum does one for me. It's the best part!

MinnieJackson · 05/10/2020 09:23

I do one for my mum aswell Grin

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 05/10/2020 09:25

Everyone in our house for Christmas gets a stocking and I get 2 because dh fills one and so does my mum. Best bit of Christmas really.

donaldtrumpsarmpit · 05/10/2020 09:28

@slashlover same!!!! I am always gutted about the advent calendar...

slashlover · 05/10/2020 09:36

I'm single and have already got my Reeses peanut butter cup one ready to go. Still have to get one for the cat because she's fussy and doesn't like the supermarket ones so I have to get a Dreamies one from the pet shop. The bad bit is on Boxing Day when I wake up and she goes over to where the calendars sit and there's nothing, she distracted enough with her presents on Christmas Day. The cat also gets a stocking - catnip mice, weird edible Santa, tin of tuna etc.

unicornpower · 05/10/2020 09:41

Never too old for a stocking! Although i read the thread title as 'socks' at first. Never too old for Christmas socks either!

mam0918 · 05/10/2020 11:01

I do them for everyone including myself... why not, theres no age limit, they are mostly sweets and adults eat sweets (in fact we probably eat more than the kids lol)

Ninkanink · 05/10/2020 11:06

Oh you should definitely get one for everyone, including adults!

I thought OP was going to buy stocks and shares as gifts for adults in her family 😄
RedCatBlueCat · 05/10/2020 11:09

Oldest stocking recipient I knew was 93.
I think stockings are better than presents (or maybe my kids are better present buyers than my husband!)

TheChosenTwo · 05/10/2020 11:12

We only do them for children but then we only wake up in the house at Christmas with the 5 of us anyway, dh and I and the 3 dc. I can’t think of anything to put in a stocking that wouldn’t be considered tat by dh and only FC brings stockings at our house and we all know he doesn’t bring anything to adults!
Dh and I have presents under the tree from each other and rather dc.

BrowncoatWaffles · 05/10/2020 11:14

We have grownup stockings here too. Nothing too posh in them - basically everyone gets fleecy socks, pjs, bath stuff and some chocolate in their stockings. I might add a book for DH and he might chuck in a hand cream or nail varnish for me.

It’s just part of the fun :)
