I'm just intrigued.
For me, when I first moved in with my ex we had no cooker. I found one on freecycle, well used but good working order. We split up long ago but still speak and cooker is still going, almost ten years later!

Maybe that doesn't count as not a 'buy'. £3in petrol maybe to collect it :)

umm best great value parenting buy was hands down the antilop high chair I got for £5 and it went through like 9 kids (mine plus nieces) with not a mark on it. What a machine that thing was!!

When I was a skint student I found a Karen Millen cardigan in a charity shop reduced from £15 to £6. £6 Was a lot of my budget. I still wear it now 20 years ish later. A friend persuaded me to buy it. Glad I did.

Bought a small secondhand freezer to use for ice for £40 just before my wedding in 2004 as the self catering venue didn't have one and there was a sudden heatwave. Figured it might not last but was cheaper than hiring one.
Freezer lasted longer than the marriage and was Freecycled earlier this year to make way for a tumble dryer.*

*DP had an old tumble dryer from a previous flat in his lockup. Decided to clear it out but found he couldn't sell the dryer on eBay because it it flagged up as being on a safety recall. Contacted the company who gave him a brand new replacement!

A Rab waterproof jacket from a school jumble sale - everything was 20p, I tried to give more but was bossily told 'no everything is 20p' Grin it was in great condition - still is nearly 10 years later, I wore it today.

The following year I helped organise the jumble sale ... and we put the prices up!

A bit more expensive but got a beautiful solid oak dining table ex display for £199 when it was originally £899 in M and S. Absolutely immaculate - I'd only nipped in to grab a birthday card and turns out they were removing furniture section from this particular store. We'd just bought our first house together and it's still used every day 8 years later Smile

Our DC, IVF cost a bomb, but my word was it worth it! £10k for a family is the best value of anything I can think of, next to our old Antilop highchair of course Grin

Mine was also from M&S. It’s a wardrobe and was supposed to be £900, but was half price as it was on clearance. I had a voucher code for 20% off, which I thought might not work on sale items, but I tried anyway, thinking I might save an extra £90. Not only did the code work, it also took the discount off the full price, not the reduced one. I got a £900 wardrobe for £270! 😀

I was looking for a rug for my toddler's bedroom. Found one in John Lewis marked down, reduced to £2.50 from around £20. When it went through the till it came up as 86p! Bargain and it's a lovely large rug.

mofro · 05/10/2020 04:22

A gorgeous huge rug with 90% off so got it for £20 saving £180 :)

In Waitrose a month before ds's wedding and found tiny Valentine's gifts, 6 chocs in a box, reduced to 10p each.
I needed 100 boxes and they had 110.
Got some rude stares but walked out happily only paying £10 for all the favours.
Someone had seriously messed up the ordering!

Speaking of things lasting longer then the relationship. I got a John Lewis toaster as a wedding gift, ten years and a divorce later still going strong unlike the graveyard of toasters that preceded it.

Best value for money? A got a bloody food second hand sofa for the cost of moving it. Then maybe a stove top moka pot that’s survived 5 years of daily use, numerous camping and hiking trips and three moves. Poor thing is battered but still works perfectly and makes lovely coffee. £18 quid but compared to the fancy expensive devises you can buy I’d say good value.

And I recently got a really nice set of espresso cups for 9e down from 25e which is amazing as they oddly cost a lot more then full size cups and most ones I like can be 10-25 each!

Now that is an absolute bargain!

18 months supply of pampers nappies from Mothercare when I was 6 months pregnant with youngest DD. It only cost me £42 including delivery. Was fun trying to stash them under the cot 😂 my DH looked at me like I had gone mad.

I was surprised at how expensive they were when I did run out eventually, started buying Aldi ones at that point
