are you letting your kids out on Halloween or not and are you going to answer the door 🤔 I live in a high risk area

OP posts:
pepsicolagirl · 04/10/2020 23:32

No, I feel quite strongly that trick or treating is out this year.

Freddiefox · 04/10/2020 23:33

There’s a few weeks to go, Currently no we won’t be trick or treating.

Dugsbollox · 04/10/2020 23:34

No definitely not. We're staying at home, and not answering the door. The numbers are increasing daily, it's not sensible to be going around doors, accepting bags of sweets.

GreenPlum · 04/10/2020 23:36

We're in a local lockdown area and have been warned we could be fined for trick or treating as we're not allowed in other people's gardens!

OrigamiOwl · 04/10/2020 23:38

If you're in a high risk area I'd suggest going trick or treating would be a bad idea.

MsEllany · 04/10/2020 23:38

We’re in a local lockdown area, so that and the fact we rarely see more than one child means our Halloween probably won’t change! We never go out ourselves although we might get dressed up and go for a meal.

AlwaysLatte · 04/10/2020 23:50

We've decided not to this year. Instead as a family we're dressing up, watching a scary film, having Halloween themed food and we'll get a load of sweets and get the kids to knock on the door multiple times! It's just as well because the 10 year old wants this costume this year - I think it might have traumatised the little ones!

No, I won’t open the door, DD is too old for this anyway. I also won’t put pumpkins/lights/decorations out to make the house less welcoming Blush

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 05/10/2020 00:01

I'm planning on going all out with decorating the windows of our flat with pumpkins and a few other bits. According to my friend some parents in my area are planning on taking their kids for a walk and giving them some sweets every time they spot a pumpkin in the window, a bit like the teddy bears picnic idea, but with treats.

Don't have kids yet, but my in laws are sorting a spooky treasure hunt in their garden for their grand kids, which is quite a nice idea.

ceeveebee · 05/10/2020 00:03

No - we are in a local lockdown area so not allowed. We are dressing up and going to a drive in Halloween movie (if that’s still allowed by then!) and then some Halloween games in the evening.

happymummy12345 · 05/10/2020 00:17

I hate Halloween and hate trick or treating even more, it's the worst part of it I think. We never ever join in, I'd never take any child of mine out doing it so obviously wouldn't have been anyway. And I never answer the door to anyone who knocks either so again I will ignore anyone who does knock. Hoping no one does.

Henio · 05/10/2020 00:20

I'm leaving treat bags filled with sweets outside the house for kids to take, we don't get many trick or treaters usually and I know the ones who do come round

chicken12 · 05/10/2020 00:58

May leave some sweets out but not sure

OP posts:
Susannahmoody · 05/10/2020 01:01

Nope. They'll have a party at school then a disco (pizza, then dancing to monster mash and jelly for pud) here at home.

Pachonga · 05/10/2020 01:06

Absolutely not. I hope our governor or mayor bans it, though they have said at the moment they won’t. We get a lot of kids coming round and usually I love it but we’re locking the house up, turning off the lights and going to the countryside for the weekend

ilovesooty · 05/10/2020 01:06

Are you in an area with enhanced restrictions?

Shxx · 05/10/2020 01:09

Leave the sweets out but giving them to kids is a no no I think

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 05/10/2020 05:15

Why would anyone think of going trick or treating or leaving sweets out? Everything this year should be cancelled and everyone needs to come to terms with this.

Oysterbabe · 05/10/2020 06:14

We'll be turning the doorbell off and just doing something for the kids at home. It's a shame, it's usually a lot of fun.

pincertoe · 05/10/2020 06:16

We are going to walk out and look at the pumpkins (our town are taking park in the pumpkin trail idea) but no trick or treating and we won't be opening the door to anyone.

44PumpLane · 05/10/2020 06:37

Local lockdown area here and like someone else we have been told we can be fined if we go trick or treating.

In reality I have outfits for the kids, we will go walking the streets looking for decorations and pumpkins and when we spot them the kids will ask me for a teat and ill give them a little something.

We will be decorating the house and then coming home and having a Halloween movie (just got to find one appropriate for nearly 4 year olds..... I'm wondering about Casper the friendly ghost, but may just watch some Halloween episodes of Disney junior shows)!

soundsystem · 05/10/2020 06:41

We're getting dressed up and going for a walk to look at the decorations. We'll be decorating our house as well, but won't be opening the door to guisers.

We'll do some Halloween stuff at home as well, just us, like dooking for apples and watching a spooky film, and of course eating sweets!

pinkyboots1 · 05/10/2020 06:45

We"re decorating the windows for the "Halloween trail' but won't be opening the door and my kids won't be going out either... I'd rather not put them or others at risk

charmsofasimplelife · 05/10/2020 06:45

No, not in a lock down area but it's not appropriate this year.

I won't be decorating either, decorating your house on the outside means your welcoming trick or treaters doesn't it? So I can't imagine there will be a lot of decorated houses either.

We'll have a mini indoor party for my 4 year old. Some fun food, pumpkin carving, pin the nose on the witch etc.
