I was enjoying creating spaces and moving my direct debits today but it turns out that They will not give me an overdraft

With my current bank I have an overdraft of £2000 and a credit card of £3000 I do not owe a penny on either of those they are just preapproved in case I should want them I try never to use credit however Starling will not give me an overdraft

I was also thinking when I trialled this personal account if I liked it
that my husband and I may start up a joint account with them but he would first have to open a personal account with them and then they would give us a joint account. So I would have to do my direct debits and spaces all over again in the joint account - Sounds very convoluted to me!

unfortunately there are no overdraft Facilities allowed at all on joint accounts At the moment

I am beginning to wonder if it is worth all this hassle just to help me organise my money better? I may try one of those apps that you just run alongside your bank account to see where the money goes.

I've posted on your other thread..... I'm not stalking you 😉. I use Emma app to run alongside my bank and credit cards accounts, I like it, it's free and simple to use. I've recently set up a monzo account which I'm finding really useful but I'm not using it as my main bank, I transfer money over and spend on the monzo card.

I really like my Monzo account which I run alongside my personal account. I use the pots facility, so when I spend say 12.88, it rounds it up to 13.00 and 12p goes into a 'pot'. I've got £150ish now in a pot for Christmas without even noticing the pennies being siphoned off. You can have multiple pots too, so good for organising your money.

They're doing you a favour with the overdraft. Interest rates are extremely expensive.

You'd be better off managing cashflow by using your credit card for normal spending and paying it off in the interest free period.

Then if you need to borrow more or for longer than a month or two, apply for a personal loan or credit card balance transfer offer.

Thanks for the Emma tip - I am trying it now and really like it so far. This way I get to stay with my normal bank which I am very happy with really. I just wanted something to help me feel a bit more organised without losing the good bits about my bank. Plus I can still cash my monthly work cheques Grin

It's good isn't it, a bit childlike but you stop noticing that after a while. The only downside is that it's not immediate, it can take a day to trickle information through but it's not too much of an issue.

I quite like the childish aspects - lovely colours, gummi bears haha. I hate finance and my brain just shuts down when I look at spreadsheets but this app is fun and friendly and gets the job done - thank you so much for suggesting it Grin
