To give up and buy an ugly coat?

I’ve been looking for a nice waterproof warm coat for months now... it doesn’t exist! I live rurally and do a long school run (walk) every day... AIBU to give up and just buy something practical?

Will happily look at any alternatives but I think I’ve seen everything!

I’ve gone for layers this year.

Uniqlo long waterproof coat with a ultra lite down layer underneath. They’ve been great so far - very waterproof & warm & flexible to wear individually. I think they are quite stylish too:

@BluebellCockleshell123 I really like this idea!

Thank you so much to everyone for suggesting coats, I can hardly even tell what I like anymore, I’ve been looking at coats for too long!

I have just spent all weekend in the rain (football and rugby) in my brand new Emma Willis full length coat from Next. I bloody love it and it reached my wellies so full coverage. I was actually a bit warm yesterday!

North face artic parka if you have some budget for it. Mine won't die and it's ancient now...best thing I ever bought
Else if you want a name but don't want to spend loads try a Barbour outlet; I got a £240 coat for £93 from one recently!

Double breasted waterproof trench coat and a jumper dress? I normally do big furry (fake) trimmed coat warm dress and big boots with chunky socks. And addded scarf and gloves. Scotchguard boots to keep out the wet.

I second the PP who suggested to look at Tommy hilfiger. I have 2 of their coats, they are warm and waterproof. Plus they look nice which is always a bonus.

Superdry 100%

Great timely thread as I am off shopping for a stylish practical coat tomorrow and have been really struggling. I fell in love with the Barbour Mast coat in Navy, but they didn't have my size anywhere. I ordered it in a size too small yesterday just in case. Barbour do have some other ones which are similar, if you stay well clear of the Alexa Chung Collection, which wouldn't look out of place on the Robin Hood lute player on Gigglebiz! Some great alternatives here.

It's now sold out in all sizes. Am just hoping that I can somehow squeeze into it.
