To have a day off for morning sickness

Even if I’m not actually being sick? I am a teacher so am obviously in work and not wfh right now. I’ve not yet been sick but am so dizzy and nauseous that all I want to do is sleep the whole time/sit still incase I feel ill moving around. WIBU to call in sick for tomorrow and have a duvet day? Problem isn’t going to go away I know, but god I feel rough!

Midwives can't prescribe. Ginger biscuits aren't going to help you!

Get straight on to GP. Especially with the dizziness which can be a sign of things going more serious. Are you drinking plenty and keeping it down?

No shame in getting signed off. Even with meds I still had 6 weeks unable to get out of bed, horrendous. Just need a sympathetic GP and not a fob off.

I took two weeks off in early days. I couldn't lift head off pillow and pretty much slept for two weeks.

@shittingthreeeyedraven

I wouldn’t mind if it were just morning sickness, it’s all day and most of the evening sickness atm. I also feel that my classes may actually be better with a cover and getting on with work rather than me snapping at them as I feel so dreadful. I’ll see about a doctors app, that’s good advice thank you, although I’m yet to even hear back from the midwife team so I’m not hugely hopeful there. I wasn’t ill at all with my first so this has thrown me. I’m 8+2 so really hoping it subsides by the end of the first trimester as it’s horrible!
I was signed off for most of my pregnancy because I was so ill.

See the doctor

Call in sick, rest and try get a appointment with your doctor for some anti-sickness tablets. I work in the food service industry and was offered them as my nausea was affecting work.

I got signed off work in both my previous pregnancies due to morning sickness. It's impossible to teach when you feel so rough/need to rush off to vomit, not to mention the disgusting aromas that follow teens around which always made me feel 1000 x worse. The worst day was when a y11 sauntered in halfway through munching on a stinky tuna roll. I actually had to run to the closest bathroom to be sick and abandon the class for a good 10 minutes in doing so. I don't think people who've only had minor sickness really get how awful it is - there's no way being at work took my mind off it, nor did eating regularly help (it just meant more dashes to the bathroom to be sick). Don't suffer - see your gp, get signed off and discuss anti-sickness meds.

I never did. I used to vomit into a plastic tub in my teacher's cupboard (a walk-in one, thankfully!).
I'm not sure that one day is going to make a difference, but I'd use it to see the doctor.

Don't waste your sick days - you'll need them later, trust me.

Funkypolar · 05/10/2020 19:49

The OP won’t be “wasting” any sick days. Pregnancy sickness is counted separately to non-pregnancy illness.

@shittingthreeeyedraven How are you feeling today? Were you able to get a doctors appointment?
