To think this was an odd question

Someone I know recently went missing and when the police were given her photo. They asked if she actually looked like that.

Well if I went missing and you showed the police a picture of me from my Facebook page you’d see me with my hair washed, straightened and wearing it down. I’d probably have my contact lenses in and have a full face of make up on.
The reality of how I look day to day is more of a miss trunchbull from Matilda kind of look so if they were looking for the Facebook version of me they’d never find me

Cocomarine · 04/10/2020 10:57

Your question is odd. Why wouldn’t they ask?
I’ve got photos of my child that even without changes over time, look nothing like her.

seayork2020 · 04/10/2020 11:01

They would have their reason and not just asking for a laugh yes I would assume for asking for an actual likeness like others have said

Beautiful3 · 04/10/2020 11:03

I have many photographs of me that dont really look like me, because I'm plain in real life but very photogenic! Also people age, and women change hair colour/style often. So i can see why they'd ask that question.

LindaEllen · 04/10/2020 11:59

I think it's a perfectly reasonable question. I look at the Facebook profile pics of some of my friends and it honestly looks nothing like them because they've edited it.

I have actually said to my DP in the past, if they go missing and use that photo they'd never find them.

WorraLiberty · 04/10/2020 12:01

I can't work out why you think that's an odd question in 2010 Confused

Filters
Fillers
Fake eyelashes
Old photo

There are many reasons why she may not look like her photo.

Conquered · 04/10/2020 12:09

No, I think with all the filters and what not, that was a normal question

Elsewyre · 04/10/2020 12:12

Why didnt you just ask "what do you mean by that"?

Coldnights · 04/10/2020 12:21

It was her Facebook profile. It wasn’t filtered she did have make up on but not loads.

OP posts:
JosephineDeBeauharnais · 04/10/2020 12:28

I look nothing like my passport photo, I do look like my LinkedIn photo. There are several —women— people in my team at work who look nothing like their email pics. I mean literally unrecognisable.
It’s not unreasonable for a policeman to check.

WorraLiberty · 04/10/2020 12:48

@Coldnights

It was her Facebook profile. It wasn’t filtered she did have make up on but not loads.
But they don't know her so obviously they had to ask if it was filtered

I don't know why that's difficult to understand.

Conquered · 04/10/2020 12:55

They don't know what she looks like, so why would they know what she does or doesn't look like, they are relying on you/her family to give as accurate information and photos as possible.

Nikori · 04/10/2020 12:58

It's probably just a standard question to ask if it is a true likeness. I really wouldn't worry about it, OP. I hope the person who went missing is found safe and sound.

Ginkypig · 04/10/2020 13:20

@Coldnights

It was her Facebook profile. It wasn’t filtered she did have make up on but not loads.
The police don't know her though. They will be very aware though of the the recent prevalence of pictures not actually bearing much resemblance at all to the person if you for example saw them doing their food shopping etc

Do you not think rather than odd it's a good thing that the police are taking it seriously enough to make sure the picture they have is a good enough likeness to be helpful.

Ginkypig · 04/10/2020 13:23

@Coldnights I meant to say in my last post.

I hope you are ok and whoever it was s that is missing is found soon.

Ginkypig · 04/10/2020 13:23

Is not was!
