I have a fb friend. Someone I don’t know well but knew when I was a teenager.

She has young children. She keeps posting videos of her in the car driving with her kids - singing, dancing etc and posting them to social media.

It appears she has the phone maybe on a mount on the dashboard but she’s still fiddling with her phone and looking at the camera not fully attentive to the road and looking at her kids!!

I’ll probably be told I sound like a busy body but campaigning against people using their phones whilst driving is a big thing for me. I had a relative who was in a horrific accident because of another driver on their phone. He was in a coma and has severe lifelong disabilities now.

It’s something I feel strongly about. I’m not the type to say something to her myself on Facebook but would you report? But to who? The local police? Would they do anything? There is video footage..

Email your local force with stills from the video or a link to it with her details.

It only takes a second for something to go wrong. Better she gets words of advice from her local force now than risk have something horrific happening.

WidowTwonky · 04/10/2020 08:56

It would be ridiculous to report this

FoxtrotOscarPoppet · 04/10/2020 09:01

Driving without due care and using a mobile phone at the wheel?

Why is that ridiculous to report?

I’d film a bit using a different devise and just send it to the police. Leave it to them to decide if it’s worthy of doing something about it.

No it wouldn't Why on earth would you think this I'm all for social media but not at the risk for others
SilverYellow · 04/10/2020 09:10

Someone slammed into the back of me doing 80mph (I was stationary on an A road due to another accident). I was cut out of the car, and lucky to be alive.

They were filleting with their phone on the dashboard.

I'd 100% report her especially if she's doing it frequently.

SilverYellow · 04/10/2020 09:11

OlympicProcrastinator · 04/10/2020 09:11

It’s not worth saying anything to her directly. As if that will make a difference! Yes I think you should forward her videos plus her registration number onto the police. You could well be saving those children’s lives.

Intelinside57 · 04/10/2020 09:11

Yep, I'd forward the videos to the police. Save some lives.

marmite79 · 04/10/2020 09:14

Thanks all. I didn’t want to say anything on fb as I’m sure it would cause a stir as she’s very popular. I will consider reporting to the police.

Cannot see why it would be ridiculous. She’s often doing it on busy roads. She could cause an accident potentially injuring or killing her sled or other people. I know full well how this is very real. My relative was in hospital for 5 months (1 month in a coma) after being in an accident caused by someone looking at a map on their phone and crashing into him!! He’s very lucky to be alive albeit with severe disabilities!

Sadly I don’t know the car reg! I have a good friend who’s in the local police force so I may ask her for advice first!

londongirl12 · 04/10/2020 09:35

I would report them. I work for emergency services, I know what not paying attention on the roads could do! Imagine if she hit someone, how would you feel then?
Some people (not you) are just so in their own little world, not thinking at all of other people. It's all about what they want

wifflewafflebiscuit · 04/10/2020 09:38

I'd fim some if it and send it to police then its up to them to decide

Sewsosew · 04/10/2020 09:43

If driving your car isn’t interesting enough that you have to entertain yourself. Then don’t drive. She could easily run someone over doing this.

hitchhikingghost · 04/10/2020 09:48

I’ve reported a situation exactly like that. I made up my mind when I thought that I would not want to meet a person like that on the road, with my own children in my car! Easy. But I also commented on her post, and she took the post down.

hitchhikingghost · 04/10/2020 09:51

And who cares if she’s popular? I am pretty sure others would agree with you if you made a comment. Someone needs to be the first to dare tell her not to be an arse.

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/10/2020 09:52

This is a real bugbear of mine so I support you reporting.

HandfulofDust · 04/10/2020 09:53

There's no point saying anything directly. She'll likely just get defensive. I do think it's worth reporting. If there was an accident and someone died you'd never forgive yourself.

manchestermom5 · 04/10/2020 09:58

Please report it. You will be saving lives!!

The sheer amount of cowardice on here explains why feminism seems to have failed to make headway latley.

Wont answer the door, womt answer the phone, wont even speak to another woman.

Everything is "who can I report this to?"

Constantly replying on outside agency means there will never be progress as that agency obviously wont be made up of the terrified of thier own shadow brigade
