To think what work expect of me is ridiculous?

I've just got a part time job to fit around the kids and I'm loving it so far. However they keep sticking me at the front of the store to hand out self scanners to customers.

Majority of the customers don't want it handed to them and would rather pick it up themselves which makes sense, even though they are thoroughly cleaned and we have to sanitise our hands constantly.

I mentioned it to the manager that I would rather do something useful as I don't feel as if that should even be a job.

I’ve wondered why they do this too. Shops keep telling us only to handle products we are planning to buy (can’t remember if Sainsburys do this) but apparently this is fine It’s totally bonkers. Surely an extra person on the tills or stacking shelves would make more sense. If people want the scanner they’ll take one and if they don’t then they’ll walk on by. A person trying to force it on a customer will make zero difference.

Yes Matilda I was thinking of the scanners where you scan each item. They're a pain.
