To talk to my psychiatrist about problems with eating

I’m still a healthy weight so I’m unsure if he will take me seriously. I’m not sure if it’s an eating disorder or if is because Of my anxiety and depression. I’m missing meals and not really eating enough most days.

I would talk about it, yes.

whatsyournamenow · 03/10/2020 14:35

Please do, it's important.

Coldnights · 03/10/2020 15:55

Thank you. I’m just worried he will think it’s stupid of me To mention due me still being a healthy weight.

You're a healthy weight now, but might not be in a months time.

He won't think you stupid.

gretagreengrapes · 03/10/2020 18:36

I would definitely mention your concerns. They usually ask about appetite and eating patterns anyway, just be honest!

Coldnights · 03/10/2020 18:52

He’s stopped asking me as I’ve said it makes me uncomfortable so I’m going to have to bring it up.

@Coldnights you can do that, you're strong enough.

whatsyournamenow · 03/10/2020 18:54

Good luck Thanks

TheOrigRights · 03/10/2020 19:48

Being a healthy weight does not mean you can't have an ED.
You can tell him you are struggling, and he should then lead the conversation from there. You don't have to say anything you're uncomfortable with. Or it may be appropriate for them to refer you to other services/support.

Coldnights · 03/10/2020 19:49

I’m worried he might then want to know my weight or send me for bloods.

And yes, anxiety and depression can play havoc with your appetite and eating. There are online questionnaires that may help clarify things.
Good luck OP

Well no prevention is better than cure after all.

Get it sorted early before it starts causing organ damaging and long term health effects

@Coldnights

I’m worried he might then want to know my weight or send me for bloods.
I doubt it in the first instance. First they will need to establish whether you do have an ED. Why would telling them your weight of having bloods be a problem?
Coldnights · 03/10/2020 19:54

I just feel embarrassed by my weight at this present time.

Do you think you need help with your eating? Maybe (as I suggested) have a look online. It may help reassure you, or it may encourage you to ask for help.

Do you see anyone other than a psychiatrist?

Coldnights · 03/10/2020 20:02

I do yes but feel I’m too big to need help.

OP posts:
TheOrigRights · 03/10/2020 20:16

You could post on the eating disorder group, it's not very busy but there are some nice people there

Coldnights · 03/10/2020 20:36

Thank you I will give it a go
