Lol my friend at work is 22 and her partner is 48 - now THAT is an age gap

FallonsTeaRoom · 03/10/2020 17:16

I was 38 when I got together with DH who was 54. So I don't think your 6 years makes any odds.

Angelina82 · 03/10/2020 17:17

It is an age difference of 6 years. YABU.

Givemeabreak88 · 03/10/2020 17:21

Interesting, I started old then mentioned to someone (I’m 31) I put the age range as 31-42 I started to think that maybe I had set it to high and when I mentioned it to someone they said 11 years was not a big age gap Confused

iklboo · 03/10/2020 17:25

I'm 8 years older than DH. No issues apart from when he asks if I watched an episode of Thundercats and I have to remind him I was probably out getting drunk and having sex at that point in time.

User36258 · 03/10/2020 17:49

It is a bit of an age difference but not one that would cause an issue imo.

CSIblonde · 03/10/2020 17:55

That's nothing. Has she only ever dated her peer group age? My friend was like that in my 20's. She was a very confident ,mature 24 but totally freaked when a 40year old guy asked her out. I was 26 & regularly dating men that age ( younger men bored me witless, no conversation & just into getting rat arsed).

CounsellorTroi · 03/10/2020 17:58

I was 28 and DH was 39 when we got together, been married 30 years.

MaskingForIt · 03/10/2020 18:12

It is a 6 year age gap, but not one that would matter unless you wanted to make a ‘thing’ out of it.

I was 33 and my husband was 27 when we met, and we run along quite nicely. I do enjoy saying things like “excuse me young man, what do you think you’re doing” in a shocked tone of voice now and then, and I still plan to be doing it when I’m 86 and he is 80!

nosswith · 03/10/2020 18:29

Seems reasonable to me, if they are a decent person. The half plus seven rule has some merit to me.

MsEllany · 03/10/2020 18:32

Has your friends lived a particularly sheltered life?! That’s nothing!

valtandsinegar · 03/10/2020 18:57

In my experience you'll probably still be more mature than him.

Ploughingthrough · 04/10/2020 00:37

I'm 34 and my DH is 41. 6 and a half years between us. It has never been even a slight issue. I do remember thinking he was ancient when he turned 30 though 😂
