Currently going through this hell after having a baby who slept for 4/5 hour stretches at night and is now awake every hour at night. Never had it with my first. If you went through it how long did it last? Thanks!

I think it was about 2 weeks here. Though it felt like months at the time. Hope you are out the other side soon.

ThatsNotMyCherry · 03/10/2020 11:11

Thanks we have had a week so far. I hope it’s not more than 2!!

Around 3 months with my 1st and I didn't have it at all with my 2nd.

ThatsNotMyCherry · 03/10/2020 11:24

@oysterbabe 3 months Shock omg. Was the baby a good sleeper before it happened?

My girl is almost 1 and so far her sleep has been worst from 4.5-5.5 months. She was a good sleeper before and after, although has started waking a bit more recently. Thankfully its a quicker turnaround. At 4.5-5months we had 1-2 wakes a night and several bad nights with more. Not horrendous as some but it would take quite a long time to get her deep enough to stay sleeping when placed in cot. I do remember at one point after a bad night feeling desperate with tiredness and thought (or possibly yelled at DH) when is this shit going to stop as it just seemed endless..but then it did and she went back to sleeping 6h+ that night . She still had a few nights up but they started to spread out and it resolved pretty suddenly. also when we moved her to her own room at 6 months she slept great 1st night and generally has done since. I know before 6 months its not recommended but maybe something to consider if it keeps going for longer than a week or 2? She's never had much of a regression since so hopefully this will be the worst bit for you and it will be over soon.

4.5

OpposableThumbs2 · 03/10/2020 12:18

Sorry. DC2 posted that.
But 4.5 years and counting. She slept brilliantly until 4 months and has been a nightmare ever since.

JagerPlease · 03/10/2020 12:22

Another one with 4 years here...although he was pretty bad before the regression too

ThatsNotMyCherry · 03/10/2020 12:48

Oh my goodness!
My first child was generally a very good sleeper but we sleep trained him because he wouldn’t nap in the day and he’s been amazing since (now 18 months)
The second seemed pretty good too from the start but now this sleep regression has hit us. I really really hope it’s not a long term thing. I was so relieved that both seemed to be good sleepers.

With all 3 it lasted until I cracked and sleep trained at around 8 months. All doing 4/5h stretches up until that regression. I’m on my knees at the moment as dc3 is up hourly every night. Flowers

CovidPostingName · 03/10/2020 13:19

We didn't have hourly walking, but ds2 didn't sleep through from when he was 18 weeks till 17 months old. And was still breastfeeding when he woke. It very nearly broke me. Sorry!

Vilanelle · 03/10/2020 16:03

How do you sleep train?

Thestreets · 03/10/2020 16:06

18 months. That was 7 years ago and I am still scarred by it!

Oysterbabe · 03/10/2020 16:06

No, she'd always been pretty terrible.

ForeverBubblegum · 03/10/2020 16:10

Sorry it's not what you really want to hear, but DS's sleep never really recovered. He would go 5-6 hours up to about 4 months, but then was down to 1-2 hours until at least 1. He was still up 1-2 times a night until 3, and at nearly 4 still only sleeps through about 50% of the time.

Readytogogogo · 03/10/2020 16:22

The four month sleep regression tends to be permanent. You will need to encourage your child to learn to settle by themselves - best time to practise is for naps. If you wish to, you can consider sleep training when they're around 6 months. Sorry, I remember it, and it is hellish.

ThatsNotMyCherry · 03/10/2020 18:34

@Readytogogogo what makes you say that it’s permanent? A lot of stuff I’m reading online says it’s temporary? We are starting sleep training now. We sleep trained our eldest at four months using a gentle method. Fingers crossed it works again!

My daughter started waking every hour, lasted for 10 days then started to improve.

ThatsNotMyCherry · 03/10/2020 21:17

Ahhh I hope it’s the same for us. We are on day 7 now

6 weeks. He was a shit sleeper anyway but went to waking up every 45 mins.
Nearly killed me (he was bf). He went back to waking every 3 hours ish after.
We sleep trained him at 11 months and got him sleeping through.

With dd i co slept with her and she was no where near as bad! (Ds wouldnt entertain co sleeping or any kind of sleeping really!!)

sevencontinents · 03/10/2020 21:53

It lasted until we sleep trained at 9 months. My child is now 4, sleeps through every night, is confident, friendly, bright, not damaged. We are well rested, happy and glad that we ignored the judgemental advice we received at the time about the dangers of sleep training. Smile

Exactly the same here. It was a permanent change and I had to co sleep to survive it until we did gentle sleep training at about 9ish months. Changed everyone’s life to have a well rested baby!
