Can't sleep for pain :(

I have an infected Bartholin's cyst... started being painful Wednesday, I called my GP and started antibiotics yesterday. Had to take ibuprofen throughout the day yesterday but it was manageable. Weds eve I had managed to drain it a bit in the bath but Thursday and today nothing. Today I had to call in sick as I can't sit properly, only lying down really comfortable. I've had three hot baths today and hot water bottle between. It's so sore now I can't even touch it, it's about the size of a golf ball I'd say. I've read that if they're going to pop it usually takes 4/5 days and I've also read how excruciatingly painful they can be... I have quite a high pain threshold usually. I'm now in so much pain that I can't sleep :( I've maxed out ibuprofen and paracetamol for the day. Do I wait it out another day to see if the antibiotics kick in or do I call the OOH docs tomorrow?? I have no fever, feel ok in myself just bloody miserable with the pain and slight stomach ache which I think is just the pain radiating up :(

I work in gynae, you generally won't be sent for surgery until you have had a few days worth of the correct antibiotics, its very uncommon to be admitted and sent straight to theatre without oral antibiotics first.

All sorted now! Both the nurse and doc had a quick look and were like yup, that's sore! 😂 I'd had two days of amoxiclav and they said I could go for the whole week course and see if it kicked in but the amount of pain I was in that wasn't really an option! So I had a local anaesthetic and little catheter balloon thing put in to drain it. When the Dr cut it it squirted out all over her scrubs 🤮 bit sore now post procedure but have some co-codamol now and home for a nap!!! Thanks all who gave great advice :)

Just reactivating this thread in the hope of more intelligent advice :) the cyst has become an abcess again, argh!!! I noticed it refilling a couple of weeks ago and thought about ringing Gp but stupidly didn't. Since yesterday it has swollen and I reckon is now about 5cm in diameter. For reference when it got huge and I was in agony I reckon it was near enough twice that size. It's uncomfortable and verging on painful currently. It's angry looking so I'm sure it's infected. I tried to call OOH last night but was told to call GP this morning. As expected they have prescribed antibiotics. Told me it's up to me if I go to a&e but they would obviously advise waiting to see if antibiotics kick in first.
I'm in a dilemma! A whole host of things making it awkward to go to a&e today - work being one of them (would be letting my own patients down) and also childcare - my husband isn't in a position for health reasons of his own to collect the kids from school or look after them on his own.
Basically my question is: second recurrence of bartholins abcess, how likely is it to respond to antibiotics when it didn't last time? Will they drain it? (I really don't want to waste all day at hospital for nothing!!!) Thanks!!!
