to stockpile cotton buds

Nothing makes me happier than a little rummage in the ear for wax, plus a gazillion other uses (mainly cleaning). Given they are now banned, alongside plastic straws, so me buying them will not lead to the manufacture of more despite creating demand, aibu to stock up on a lifetimes supply if I see any still for sale in corner shops etc. I reckon a life times supply is about 100 pots. I mean the ones that have been made already will still need disposing of even if not bought and used.

The Johnson and Johnson cardboard ones are ok (but not as good as the plastic ones)

I like finishing up after a shower with a johnson cotton bud too. Never bothered to check what it was made of, I assume the name is a bit of a giveaway. I'm o/s and the Govt here has announced they intend to see ''cotton buds'' banned...

ps. And for those of you pointing out we should use less plastic, what material exactly is your keyboard made out of? Hmmm...

A keyboard isn't used once then thrown away.

I have never shoved a cotton bud in my ear. I've never had problems with waxy build up. Maybe some are just more prone to it than others?

Ericaequites · 02/10/2020 10:29

Using a small Bobby pin works better. My maternal grandmother and mother taught me this evil habit. It's satisfying to remove a big chunk of wax.

DeeThree · 02/10/2020 11:16

Anyone else getting non stop ads for cleaning ear wax now?Grin
I love a good ear clean-out with a cotton bud!

KimWexlersPonyTail · 02/10/2020 11:24

Growing up we always used a hair grip (bobby) covered in a bit of loo roll

QuestionableMouse · 02/10/2020 11:38

I liked the plastic ones for cleaning conditioner from the outside of my ears. The card ones work but get soggy quick.

OP I am the same. I've stockpiled cotton wool buds and I love rummaging around in my ear. And yes I know it's bad, but like you, nothing will stop me.

The problem isn't the buds, it's the fact people flush them down the loo. I don't do that, I put them in the bin, and they end up being incinerated.

Nottherealslimshady · 02/10/2020 12:12

J dont understand how people go through life without cleaning their ears. We bought a little metal thing off amazon that does a great job, paper ones are to flimsy to really get the sides of your ears. It's not hard to not not stab your eardrum.

LeSquigh · 02/10/2020 13:52

We have used paper ones for years and they are really no different to the plastic ones. If you are poking them in so hard that it causes them to bend or be a problem then you really shouldn’t be doing that anyway!

TheClitterati · 02/10/2020 13:52

has anyone mentioned paperclips yet .........

PomBearsArentNaice · 02/10/2020 14:01

I used to use cotton buds....never again....

My mother used them on me as a child so I grew up with them and loved the feeling and sight of those big gobbets of Amber yuk on fuel-efficient so satisfying! but I had many ear infections. Aged 19 I had an attack of labyrinthitis and I am not kidding when I say my hearing has been poor since.

I suffer wax build ups so know how satisfying it is to use a cotton buds but please don't ....

I discovered sodium bicarbonate eardrops and ever since then I try use them almost.daily... They are fantastic and if You start using them first after a big build up of impacted wax they are very satisfying when the was begins to shift. I never need stringing as sodium bicarbonate drops keep me clean in my ears

PomBearsArentNaice · 02/10/2020 14:01

Syringing, not stringing

I don't use my keyboard once and bin it though...
MiddleClassProblem · 02/10/2020 15:48

Isn’t labyrinthitis normal caused by a flu or something? Not cotton buds?

D4rwin · 02/10/2020 15:51

I buy the bamboo ones. Why are they being banned?
