Moving to Brighton

Wondering if anyone has advice on which areas of Brighton are best for families? Really like Aldrington , but it’s quite pricey. We’ve also looked at kemptown/ Queen’s Park but heard the streets that edge on whitehawk aren’t great for schools so wondering if Hove is a better option ? But can central Hove get very busy with traffic /parking etc ?

The Hanover area is fantastic for families, as is seven dials. All of brighton is ridiculous for traffic and park ime, unless you want to live right out of town. Portslade is supposed to be on the up, but I’ve not been there for a while.

Seven Dials/Porthall/Prestonville area great for schools - outstanding primaries and catchment for best 2 state secondaries. Great community feel, local shops, lots of local community stuff going on. In between Preston Park and Dyke road Park so green around. 10 min walk to mainland rail, 15 mins walk to beach, 10 mins walk to town.

Portslade isn’t Brighton are Hove, further out so cheaper but bit of a dump. Kemptown way is less family friendly and not as many schools - you want to avoid a catchment that puts you in the catchment for Longhill, BACA or PACA for secondary.

As for driving/parking in brighton/hove and around - it’s okay but designed to keep cars out of the centre and get people into buses, bikes, scooters whatever but it’s all fine - you get use to walking and everything is compact. And there are a million taxis for taking you back up the hill home after a day out.

Thanks everyone ! I’ve seen a couple of cute terrace houses in Hanover so I’ll give that area a look , although don’t think I could live too far up the hill with little ones ! Also been looking at Livingstone Road and Clarendon Road in Hove. Is this a good area to live with young kids ? Any downsides that you know of ? Thanks

What budget do you have ? There are some spots that are better value and some that command premium prices.

Hove downsides would be secondaries - Blatchington good others - Hove Pk, PACA poor.
Stringer and Varndean are on the Seven dials/ Hanover/ Preston parkside

Brighton is really dirty and full of teenagers getting pissed, smoking weed and homeless tents on the streets outside the shops. It's gone really downhill in recent years, I wouldn't want to bring my kids up there.
