To think the other driver was inconsiderate?

Today I was driving my 24hr old car. Country Lane, single track as in hedges both sides very narrow not car and a half width. Just one car width. Meet two oncoming cars, also one car behind me. Car infront tries to reverse back, can’t. I put on my reserve lights and wait for one behind me to move. He slowly goes back and pulls into the passing point on the RHS only big enough for one car. I reverse back to him but sit for a while as no where for me to go. Driver behind me could have and I think should have reserved back to next passing point but refuses to move. I’m then really struggling to reverse on tiny single track and navigate past the car behind me (sat in the RHS passing place and space to pass was super tight) as there is also a bend at that point and if I reverse the bend I was worried my front end would hit him. To avoid hitting him I accidentally hit a fence post in the hedge and pulled off my bumper. I’m so annoyed at myself but also was the car behind me being unreasonable? Fence post was ok. I got out and checked after.
It’s really knocked my confidence and left me upset at myself.

Sounds like there were far too many cars for a very inadequate road.

Sorry I know that is not helpful.

Yes, I think he probably should have reversed back further. Do you usually drive on country lanes?

That’s really poor! The driver should (of course!) have reversed back to the next passing place. Pulling into a passing place on the “wrong” side of the road is better than expecting you to reverse into it and out again, but inconsiderate driving otherwise (Id assume driver just rubbish at reversing.).

I regularly drive on narrow single lane roads. Fully understand the problem. Difficult when two vehicles going each way. I damaged the back wing of our car by reversing into the bank at the side of the gap. Some people probably panic when meeting other vehicles in a narrow lane. Best for them to avoid it it they can, as maybe the car behind should have done if there was another route. But don't beat yourself up about it, WSIFD. All part of life in the countryside.

Always makes me laugh on motorways when I see the sign: NARROW LANE AHEAD. I expect to drive into the sort of narrow lane with which I am more familiar.

I must admit I wonder how people who are more used to main roads, cities and motorways would cope on single track roads with near vertical high banks either side.

The other car should have reversed further. You need to hold your ground!

Thank you for the replies. I should have asked the man behind to reverse back further. I was trying to just be polite, quiet. Do the right thing etc. I’d have never treated a driver the way he treated me. Lesson learned to speak up!
