To complain to my boss about her decision?

I work for a small family run business.
Including myself there are 10 of us.

Myself and one other staff member are younger than 35 and the rest of the staff are 50+

During lockdown the company stayed open and we all worked from home.
We returned to the office early June.

Since the announcement from the government regarding working from home, I expected our boss to send us home, but she hasn’t.

She sent an email to us all at the beginning of the week advising that the office was Covid secure, we’re all small company, we aren’t in a busy city centre and none of us use public transport to get to work.

She thinks it’s better for team morale for us all to be in the office rather than working from home.

The thing is, we “can” work from home as we did for months during lock down with no issues.

My area of work is on a local lockdown area and I’m starting to feel anxious being there.

Would I be unreasonable to approach her about this and tell her I’d like to work from home?

Unless the Government makes it law then I would think employers can insist on staff going back to work
Ok a test case find otherwise but who knows
OP obviously you can speak to your boss but if I was you I would be careful who I phrased it,presumably they have considered the options carefully and decided they want the staff back in
Although lots of people say WFH has no impact on productivity a lot of employers think differently ,and not because they are dinosaurs

Bloody hell there are some right delightful people on here. I know it's AIBU, but there's no rule you have to leave politeness at the door.

IndecentFeminist · 01/10/2020 19:50

The guidelines aren't that people other than essential workers have to work from home. It's that you should if you can. The OP can't as the boss says no. There is no law compelling the boss to make a different decision here.

Its really up to the business owner to decide whether you were working effectively at home.

The set up in a lot of offices will be very different now to what it was back in March, as businesses will have implemented control measures to reduce risk.

If those controls are in place and you're flapping about being in a local lockdown area then yes, you're neurotic. My area has been in local lockdown for a long time and it really has no impact on most workplaces.

I think you definitely should ask.
It may be other colleagues like or need to be in the office.
Have you spoken to everyone in the office their views on this?
